Someone dropped this box full of puppies off at the clinic today. I was the first person there this morning and I found them outside the door. There are eight total. They look like lab mixes, and they're pretty young, probably not two months old yet. I didn't bring them home with me, but we don't have room to foster them at the clinic either. I ( Read more... )

I wouldn't mind having a dog. I know the apartments are small, but I could probably manage. I take a lot of walks anyway.

You can come to the clinic with me sometime when you're free, if you'd like. The puppies are all very sweet, and I don't think they'll get that big.

Have you ever had a dog before?

I'd like that. How is tomorrow morning? I don't have classes until late afternoon.

No, that's a problem, isn't it? I always wanted one, but my dad hated them.

Tomorrow morning is fine, as long as you're ready to leave at 8:30.

Not having had a dog before isn't a problem. You just have to think it through. A dog is a big commitment. Some of them live up to fifteen years, and they depend on you completely to take care of them. It's like having a small child, kind of. When you get a puppy, you have to train it, make sure it always has food and water, take it for walks, etc.

I'm not trying to discourage you from getting a dog, mind you. I'm just trying to make sure that you consider all the time and effort (and money) that having a pet requires. Then again, they'll also love you unconditionally, and be your best friend until they die.

Of course, I'll be around to help you (and anyone else in the building who has a pet, really) when you need assistance or advice. If you have any questions, just ask me. If you're still interested in possibly adopting a puppy, just let me know.

I usually get up between 5:30 and 6am so that won't be an issue.

Yes, I know. When I was thirteen, I took some classes on training dogs just to try and prove to my father that I could take care of a pet on my own. But it was all to no avail.

I'd like to adopt one, definitely.

Ooh, an early riser. I get up at five most days to run the dogs, weather permitting. They would run all day if I could keep up.

All right, be in the foyer at 8:30. How do you plan on getting back?

Maybe I could join you on the runs, if you'll allow me.

I'll take a bus.

Of course you can join me. The dogs always love extra company. I go a few miles at a pretty brisk pace, over to the park and back.

If you didn't mind waiting a spell, I could drive you home during my lunch break.

All right, we'll try it and see how it turns out.

That would be nice, thank you.
