I tried to do this on Friday

Hey, I'll jump on the wagon....

Today, we found out when the court date is for our 2nd parent adoption. June 12th, Greyson Riley will legally be my son. Of course, he always has been...

I am the non-bio parent of a 10 and a half month old boy named Greyson...Grey for short. I always wanted to be a parent growing up, but after I came out almost 15 years ago, I thought that dream was over. I never actually wanted to be pregnant mind you...I always assumed I'd adopt. I met the love of my life 6 years ago at a Chris Williamson/Holly Near concert, and by our 2nd year together, we wanted a child, and she wanted to carry. We scrimped and saved, I finished my R.N., and we bought a house...then we started trying to get pregnant.

Greyson was conceived at a fertility clinic in Plymouth Meeting, PA on our 5th IUI, his anonymous donor was an R.N. with Brown hair and Green eyes (close enough to me). Greyson came flying into our lives (great pushing Gretchen) on July 11th 2006 at 3:20 pm after just 13 hours of active labor and 20 minutes of pushing, with no epidural. I am forever in awe of my wife's ability to handle pain and to keep her focus.

Gretchen works full-time during the week as a social worker, and I work full-time during the week as parent to Grey. On the weekends, I work as an R.N. on a Labor and Delivery floor in Philly, while Gretchen works full time keeping the boy happy. This arrangement keeps Grey out of day care, a choice we made before conception.

Right now, he is crawling well, trying to walk, calls me "Mama" and Gretchen "Mim" and is the most fun kid I could ever imagine. Being a stay at home parent is so much fun, and I am so greatful I have the kind of career that allows me to do it.
