California Adventure
I had this past weekend off and decided to take in the sites.
Saturday was a nice trip to Tijuana. We (co-workers and myself) got up early and made our way to my co-worker's brother's house. So far so good. When we got there, we found out that we had one more stop. We originally were supposed to get to the border by 10am. We did not arrive until about 1pm. No problem, we still had plenty of time to sightsee. Again I was wrong. We got there and immediately went to the first bar. The group orders 3 buckets of beer for $30!!! $1 a beer. Sweet..Cheap beer! After consuming all the beer we proceded to go sightseeing.. Wrong again. Stopped at another bar and ordered two more buckets and sat waiting on some of the group who were shopping. (Silly me, I felt it was better to wait until we were leaving to actually shop). Finally finished the two buckets and went to a little pretty unknown mexican stand. WOW. Great food!!! Really hit the spot or so I thought. GOOD, we have eaten and now let the sightseeing begin!! Wrong again. We went to another bar and ordered two more buckets. Its about 2pm now, the group had earlier decided that we would leave by 4:30ish. Finished the two buckets and the group got up to go sightseeing.. Sigh wrong again.. The group decided they wanted a few more buckets. I had enough so decided I would just go buy stuff, since sightseeing seemed out of the question now. I proceeded to spend my money buying souvenirs!! Got some really nice cheap stuff!! Its now about 4pm and we started our trek back to the border, but again the beer gods called to the group. Two more buckets later we finally make our way to the border. After making our way through the 2 mile line to get through the customs line we finally make our way back home. We got back to the hotel at 10pm!!!! So much for well planned trips.
Another note on Tijuana. It was nothing like I imagined it would be. They have basically turned it into a one giant tourist trap. But then again, I never got to see anything else of Tijuana except the bars!! As soon as you walk up, you are surrounded by small children ( I mean like 5- 10 years old) trying to sell you little trinklets. Where were their parents!!! Despite everything, it really was a nice trip and I got lots of nice stuff. The wonderful food I had consumed earlier decided to rebel in my stomach on the way home. Just thought I would share. :D
So today I got up and decided I would take a drive up to Hollywood and the Queen Mary. The trip up was really nice and uneventful. Arrived in Hollywierd around 10ish. The store I wanted to looked around in (PanPipes) did not open until noon, so seemed like a good time for a nice stroll. The locals have a open market every weekend. WOW, the place was filled with incredibly fresh and varied vegetable and fruits available. Would be nice if Huntsville would have something like that. Afterwards, it was off to Mann's Chinese Theater. Very nice. I also got to watch them taping a live street show with a hypnotist. You might see me on tv sometime soon :) All the wallking was making me hungry so I stopped in a little chinese place right next door to Panpipes. Wonderful food, sat there talking chinese to the owner. After feeding my belly and proceded next door and purchased the gift. So far so good, a very nice peaceful day. But of course that would change. All I can say is Google maps are evil!! I got LOST!!! I mean really lost. The highway, according to the directions from Google, was right around the corner. It wasn't!! I ended up driving through sunset blvd, then rodeo drive, then Wilshire blvd. I would like at this time to give a extra special thanks to my saviour, trampoline_girl. She directed me over the phone to my exit. If it wasn't for her, I would probally still be driving through LA!! Ok now it was time for the Queen Mary. Damn that boat is big!!! I didn't make it there in time to go through the whole tour, but it was still very nice. At 5pm I decided it was time to make my way back to the hotel. Sigh, I got lost again!!! Ended up Pacific coast Highway, and againtrampoline_girlcame to my rescue!!!
Eventhough I got lost twice, it really was a great day. And as someone pointed out to me, getting lost can be fun sometimes. I got to see Hollywood and Beverly Hills and I got to drive down the PCH!!
Well my food is ready!! Hope everyone could follow what I wrote ok. As you can see I am not much of a writer.
