Firewalls

Sep 09, 2011 05:13

I have a pair of entry-level SOHO firewalls available to anyone who wants to play around with them. I'm not giving them away but I'm not using them at the moment so I may as well see if anyone wants to screw around with them a little bit =)

I have the following:
Netscreen 5XT (ScreenOS)
Nokia IP45 (CheckPoint Embedded NG)

The Nokia is simpler from a learning perspective, it only has 3 interfaces (LAN/WAN/DMZ) and a pretty simple web GUI. Sadly the Embedded NG command line is not very good. It's a device that is practical for simple everyday use, I used it at home until I recently upgraded to the shinier IP60.

The Netscreen is a much more capable device but is a bit more complex. The web GUI is not as intuitive as the Nokia but the command line is very powerful. This one has 5 interfaces (4 LAN, 1 WAN) which can be split up into logical zones using "office mode". Sadly Juniper is retiring ScreenOS which is a shame since Netscreens are a joy to manage.

If there's any interest is grabbing one of these to learn just let me know. They're always available.
