Through the roof, and underground...

Well it's official, I'm a slacker. I can't even begin to update since the last time I was on here it's been 3 years. CRAZY! So I'm just going to go over the basics. I now work for Baystate at the D'Amour Center for Cancer Care as an Outtake coordinator. That is a fancy way of saying I book follow-up appointments, CT scans, MRIs, etc. Good times! I am in the process of moving to a new apartment with my boyfriend Nick. We've been together for 3 and 1/2 years and couldn't be happier. We have a kitty named Madeline and she is so stinkin cute. She's grey with a white nose spot, her belly and boots are also white. SOOOOO CUTE!

A band by the name of Gogol Bordello has taken over my life. Nick and I discovered them quite randomly one December day in 06 and I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was reading an article about Elijah Wood. We had just seen Everything is Illuminated and fell in love with it. In the article they were discussing the girl he was currently dating who was a member of Gogol Bordello whose front man was Elijah's brilliant costar in Illuminated. His name is Eugene Hutz and he is a musical genius. As soon and I finished the article I told Nick about the amazing news I had just read. We could get more of this brilliant Ukrainian man, and believe me we did. That day we downloaded the song "Start Wearing Purple" on a handheld recording devise. We were taking a day trip to the pot holes in Shelburne falls and we must have played that song over 10+ times on the ride there and back. Addictive is the only word that can describe Gogol's sound. We downloaded the entire album a few days later and since then it has been a world-wind of Gypsy Punk love. Their albums have, for only a short period of time, left my CD player. What can I say, I'm in love!

We have since purchased all of their albums (minus the very first, which eventually we will add to the collection.) We have seen them live 3 times so far. Once in their hometown of New York City which was by far my number one concert experience of my life. I have been to a great deal of concerts in my day so to be at the top of that list is quite a feat. The energy that was in that room can only be described as all encompassing. The best moment was when they broke into the pro-ganja song "Not a Crime." The entire crowd jumped up and down as one entity throughout the duration of the song. It was incredible I tell ya! The second time we saw them was in Boston a couple months after the first show. The third was this past Sunday in New Haven, CT. That show for me was the lowest on my list on GB shows. The energy was high and it was a great time, but because of douchbags and having to wait a crazy long time to actually see them perform was why it was my least favorite. There was this freak who kept stand on the barriers in front of where I was standing. Now this barrier was what separated the bar area from the crowd so it's not like I was in the front row and he wanted to be close to the band OH NO! It was just he wanted to defy the security guards and my fist from hitting him in the jaw. I go to shows to enjoy the live music and I know that there are going to be idiots at every show. However, I do not go to shows to stare at random douchbags crotches as they stand in my face. (Please excuse the side rant.)

Gogol Bordello's music touches my soul. That is the best way to describe it. I've tried to convert a few fans and have had only some luck. Some love it and get sucked in and some can't get into it at all. All I know is I don't really know what I did before them. I look forward to their future and am so glad I'm a fan. If you know who they are hit me up and share your gypsy stories, if not check them out sometime you won't be disappointed. Alright I'm at work and shouldn't even be on here so I'm off to book appointments. Thanks for checking back, Carolyn
