Wow, LJ! Long time no see! Can I even remember how to do this?

Watched new SGU and Sanctuary last night, but it was early morning here, and I was a bit drunk, so not sure how much of it I actually remember... Since nobody I see in RL really watches them, I'm going to babble about them here. I miss having

'k, have just watched the latest SGU and Sanctuary. You've done some excellent wrapping-up and bits of analysis there, though I don't agree with all of it...two of my fave Sanctuary eps so far (this latest being one of them) were basically the Helen and Will Show (remember the crashed plane?), because the intensity of the acting in both is so many notches higher then the usual. Look, I love love love Henry (and want to have his puppies!) AND the Big Guy AND the marvellous Mr Druitt (and I soooo hope Ashley isn't really dead, as I've said before, because even though Ullerup can't act to save her Hot Babe Arse, she's one fine piece of Hot Babe Arse so who cares), but this episode was so sharp and hard and tight that I didn't begrudge their absence at ALL.

As for Kate - my DB's summation is 'she's no Faith, but she's got some promising chops', and that's pretty much how I feel about her. I think if we hadn't seen her starting to ditch some of the hardwoman act at the end of last episode, I'd have started getting tired of her already.

Will's hair...hmm, possibly channelling the spirit of Snake Plisskin in Escape from New York. Or channelling Matt Keeslar channelling the spirit of Snake Plisskin in Escape from New York near the end of the season in Middleman ;-)

The idea of Will/Kate doesn't surprise me that much - and we know from RL human history that states of war tend to create states of havingbabiesness, so what better time to go ahead and bring a normal(ish) human into the world than during a zombie apocalypse?

All in all, the 'it was only a dream'-style denouement didn't bother me because we kept seeing the weird vapours right from the start, so I was expecting something like 'this is a vision of a possible future' all along. But I do like they way it was revealed at the end.

Also, I'm going with apocalypsae :P

As for SGU, I don't know what to say, apart from 'Robert Carlyle is teh awesum, the Eli character continues to be endearingly engaging both in spite of and because of his blobby geekiness, and everyone else in the cast = pieces of random interchangeable meat IMO, but hey, I'm watching it for the stargates and the Carlyle anyway'...and yep, we both laughed at the Futurama references :D

Hot leaden death to all American spellcheckers! Hot leaden death to all American English, for that matter!

I'm not saying that the just Helen and Will episodes aren't amazing - Requiem and Kush were brilliant - I'm just in a bit of a Henry fangirl stage, and missed having something of him to squee over!
Will/Kate I think mostly surprised me because they haven't had all that much interaction so far, but I guess after several years, they would have!
Liking apocalapsae!

Eli is definately my favourite part of SGU so far. I think, because I read a lot of the behind the scenes stuff, I'm quite liking the others because of all the stuff I'm hearing from that, rather than what I'm actually seeing.

And yes, death to American English! Except their pronunciation of 'lieutenant', which I actually think is better, but that's probably because I first knew the word from Trek!

With you on the Henry love - I think I've made that obvious by now :P (Actually, it's funny how the scruffy little geeky blokes tend to ring my bell. Henry...Wash from Firefly...Seamus Harper from Andromeda...Oz from BtVS...I suppose even Michael Hurst as Iolaus in Hercules: tLG counts, though not so much on the geek front! Hmm, maybe the real reason that Wesley Crusher fails to make that list is that he wasn't scruffy!)

Will/Kate: future Will had had to harden up a LOT. Present-day Kate was softening. Maybe they met in the middle :D

because I read a lot of the behind the scenes stuff

I'm probably your opposite number. Not only am I not part of any fandoms as such - L knows all about that! - but I (usually) hate spoilage and rarely even bother to find out new-to-me actors' names until after I've seen some of the shows in question. I'm the one who (usually) leaves the room when someone wants to watch DVD cast interviews or a director's voiceover. I'm the one who throws stuff at my DB if he doesn't press the stop button when the next episode trailer starts at the end of a downloaded ep. Not to mention being the one who scratches her head and rolls her eyes when friends tell me they're going to such-and-such a convention. (And all this makes it even funnier that I'm lumbered with publishing what's essentially a fanzine every month, hee...)

Hmm. If I had to choose a non-Standard English pronunciation of 'lieutenant', I think I'd rather go with the German one - LOYT-nint - because I like the sound better. Also re American pronunciations, there are some USA accents I don't mind (some of the Deep South and New England ones), but for the most part I find their males all sound like Kermit, and one Muppet-frog is plenty enough for me :P - which reminds me...Tapping's sort-of-transatlantic accent as Magnus is win to my ears, and she does a pretty good job of keeping it consistent. Though this year's James Marsters Award for Best Non-native On-camera Accent definitely goes to the painfully hawt Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse in True Blood.

Oh - question about the stones in SGU - are they a carry-over from SG1? Because they seem to be treated as part of the landscape, like everyone's known about them foreverty. I only got as far as bits of s6 and still haven't got around to catching up, nor as I ever in a hurry to for reasons I'd better not explain in case they cause you to declare war on me, muhahahaha...

Yay for scruffy little geeky blokes - totally with you on that one!
Tapping's accent is good. I've not seen True Blood though.

Yes, the stones are from SG1. First the stones connected Jack to the guy who plays Homer Simpson, then in s9 they found a device that went with them that sent Daniel and Vala to another galaxy, kicking off the Ori thing. Apparently they work better now though, since with Daniel and Vala, it was just a one way thing, and their bodies were basically comatose the whole time.

Ah, okay - I did find the stones/bodyswapping thing a bit confusing in SGU, but only because I felt like I'd arrived late at the party and was six drinks behind :-)

True Blood is tricky, in the sense that I dunno whether to recommend it or not. On the one hand, almost all of the acting is fabulous and we've kept watching for that reason (although cries of 'Sack the Viking! Sack the Viking!' abound when we're watching). OTOH, the storylines have gone from dodgy to downright lame, and we keep having doubts about continuing with the series; we've seen all of s1 and s2 but aren't at all sure we'll download s3 when it airs. Be warned there's lots of graphic sex, gore, and utterly uncensored swearing. As in LOTS. :-)
