THIS MOVIE. OMMMGGGGG. I've been scouring the internets periodically since like 2002, let me tell you.

I wore out my VHS copy of this between the ages of 5-10, including a panicked moment where I accidentally taped two seconds of M*A*S*H* over it. Apparently the tape distribution was shoddy enough that the manufacturer hadn't removed the erasure protection tabs.

Tragedy porn for the primary school set, it touches on all the obvious topics that should be packed into an hour-long cartoon about talking animals: death, alcoholism, animal abuse, organized crime, more alcoholism, more death, euthanasia, bloody violence, homelessness, psychosis and an oblique reference to pedophilia. Also Shakespeare. Neatly wrapped up with a preachy, guilt-inducing moral about 'abandoned, hungry, lonely' animals waiting for their impending deaths. I licked it up and loved it 'til the wheels came off. I don't know what this says about me, but it can't imagine it's healthy.
