Today I drove a couple hours in each direction to go give a talk at a nearish-by college. The talk went well and it was fun to meet new people and talk to them about fun things, and the drive was through beautiful countryside, but MY LORD radio is bad these days. At least in this part of the country, but outside of a few pockets of good music in a handful of cities (xpn, fuv, kcrw, kexp, and...um...) it seems like music these days sucks. OK, I know I'm not saying anything new (and did i mention that mtv doesn't play videos anymore?) but after 4 hours in the car today i was genuinely excited to hear a Gin Blossoms song come on the radio. You know that music is bad when you are pining for the days of Hootie & The Blowfish.
I did spend some time with the new Rhett Miller cd, and I like it but I don't yet love it. Then again, I feel similarly as I remember feeling after a few listenings to the last Rhett Miller cd, so I wouldn't be surprised if I do fall in love with it at some point soon.
In the meantime, I have jumped full steam on the Jenny Lewis bandwagon. That and Beth Orton and Ben Lee are by far my best recent music acquisitions.

For those of you
keeping score at home, my main bracket is still in the 99.5th percentile though only four of my elite eight temas are still alive -- and only three of my final four picks. So I don't see staying in the 99's for long.

As far as TV goes, Prison Break is back! And it was good. I'm glad to have it back. Oh, and The Office is still the funniest show on television.
