Today my department had a colloquium, and as always we had a pizza lunch with it. And, as always, this came with a tray of cookies. And the cookies they make here on campus are good -- as always, there were the peanut butter, and the chocolate chip, and the various variants on chocolate chip -- some with M&M's, some with Reeses Pieces, and some with chunks of Oreos.

Yes, you read that right. We served cookies with chunks of cookie in them. Now, I like oreos. I'm a big fan of oreo ice cream, and a big fan of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, and even a fan of cookies with chips and chunks in them. But I am also a fan of irony and things that are self-referential, and that is why I so enjoyed the idea of cookies with cookies in them. Just thinking about it makes me smile (though in reality they didn't taste all that great). Have these been around awhile and I just missed them, or is this one of those new things people are learning about from the all-cookie issue of Martha Stewart Living.

I like Tina Fey. Really, I do. But the fact that her new sitcom sounds like exactly the same premise as the new Aaron Sorkin show...well, lemme just say that I'm putting my money on Sorkin's to be the better of the two shows. Sure, Fey's might be "on time" and "conventional" and "have dialogue that sounds realistic instead of like some crazy staccato banter", but I'll still bet that Sorkin's will be the superior show.

Not that there isn't room for two tv shows about backstage at an SNL-esque show. I mean, both will be far better than "Goddamn Ice Goddamn Skating With The Goddamn Stars". (yes, I'm still bitter. even though my headache is gone. and i'm even more bitter now that i've seen who the "stars" are. Whatchooskatingaboutwillis indeed.)

Of course, the fact that Prison Break won't be around for Febraury sweeps won't affect me much, because I will be watching the Olympics. It will be my first Tivolympics and my lord am I excited. Even though I hate Figure Skating with a passion -- mostly because, in case you don't remember, I don't think judged events should be in the Olympics period. But I am ready for Bob Costas and Apollo Anton Ohno and all of those non-hockey non-figure-skating events. Because just like Natalie, what's ailing me is Olympic fever.

And yes, it all does come back to Sports Night.
