Well, since this is a journal, I shall tell you what's been on my mind. Seriously, people, I am more nervous than ever; can Kerry really beat Bush? I'm thinking that his running mate will have lots to do with it. Also, I think that terrorism within US borders in the fall, God forbid that actually comes to fruition, will play an extremely heavy role. Therefore, I propose General Wesley Clark as VP. Experienced in foreign policy, popular among swing voters, and, most importantly, MODERATE. Clark can't be attacked as a Left-wing radical by Rove and the boys which is a plus for the Dems. More significantly, I feel that his ability to stay central could play a key part in obtaining a functional compromise on issues from Iraq to civil rights in the Senate. Being a (former) influential senator, Kerry is more likely to trust the legislative branch of the govt and not run a rogue show like W or Nixon, or even LBJ from his own party. Don't you see? The legislative branch is what makes America America. Let's work to bring it's use back into America's foreign policy where it hasn't been since the Truman administration. By the way, for all you partisans, I am more than willing to say that if Bush would have been willing to run a non-imperial presidency, I would support him in that regard. Also, along these lines, I still maintain that he has done a better job with foreign policy than Mr. Gore would have done -- Bush just has a far superior staff. Furthermore, although I'm not a huge Kerry fan, I really think that if he were to choose a running mate and cabinet wisely, things could change for the better. I recognize that many if not all of these selections are made politically, not with regard to competence or ability but rather to maximize demographic voter popularity, which is unfortunate, but a reality. That is why I support getting the word out to voters, Democrats specifically this summer, that Clark is a key aspect to this potential new administration. Clark, as VP and therefore Senate leader, could use his military expertise and prowess to bring congressional influence on foreign matters to unprecedented levels. And that is the key, my friends, to maintaining a republican govt.
