What's wrong with getting along?

May 27, 2004 17:02

Today's thoughts have been centered around John McCain.  When I was a GOP in 2000, I voted for him in the primaries and still really stand behind many (but certainly not all) of his views.  My previous diatribe was regarding a way to bring Congress into a useful role in foreign policy.  And I suggested Wes Clark for the Democrat's ticket.  However, if the GOP is going to win this election, and I know many of you would enjoy this outcome, why not drop Dick Cheney and pick up a John McCain or a Colin Powell who both know foreign policy and as head of the senate would both strive to become involved and push Bush for more congressional involvement.  Think this way: Bush needs to ask Powell's advice anyway, if he were VP, he could give advice and then inform the senate foreign relations and armed services committees on the goings on.  McCain would be a great choice too, that's why even Kerry's people have flirted with the idea.  I think a bipartisan ticket would be great for America, even if it didn't win, but just to say "hey, somebody out here is willing to be a centrist and a moderate without concern for political backlash."  I think voters would like that, I know I would.
Tomorrow (probably): Iraq and Vietnam: A brief comparative study of the "quagmire effect."
