http://www.thetenthritual.com/?content=lineup (check it out and let me know what's worth seeing)

The regular band lineup for Voodoo Fest is far lamer than usual; the headliners are just okay (R.E.M., NIN, STP) and the one to get excited about, Stone Temple Pilots reuniting, might not even exist or simply play like shit due to heroin. Current concert reviews by them say to expect forgetting the words at the very least. NIN is especially cool live (far better than album) but their fans very much aren't. They are terrible. And I'd like to see R.E.M., but I wouldn't kill for it.

The smaller band lineup isn't nearly as cool as the Social Distortion/Meters/Mute Math/Kings of Leon/Flaming Lips days, what with fucking Dashboard Confessional and Panic at the Disco, which I'd rather have a colonic irrigation entirely of battery acid than sit through. And I really don't want to have to be around their fans unless I have a baseball bat full of nails. And the legal system behind my actions.

Death Cab I feel neutral about; I like them well enough, but eh. See above.

The other bands I don't know well enough to judge, and don't think will be enough to convince people to come with me to New Orleans. Tokyo Police Club and the Vettes I know and would see, but I was hoping for more.

The good news is that a lot of big jazz names and locals are playing, and I remember Big Sam's Funky Nation at least being pretty neat.

The bad news is fucking $115 tickets and apparently there's grandstand seating taking some of the more ideal space (with $450 tickets for the privilege). That's nearing double what I paid in the past. Too much to pay considering I'm avoiding a lot of the 'big' content.

I don't know how I really feel about it. The events and infrastructure surrounding it will be cool, and I could just go for the jazz and Bourbon Street and that's more than reason enough. But I might as well go to just a jazz fest and pay a third the price. People still have New Orleans fresh enough on their minds after spring's formal to want to go back, but I doubt I could get a decent crowd for one day of mediocre bands and 2 days of jazz. The schedule is still up in the air, so maybe better bands will jump on. And we still have a deal with that hotel.

And if you actually want to see Dashboard or Panic, you can't come. Sorry. Also we probably aren't friends, quit reading my LJ.
