Work is work.

Well, the time has come.... Lowe's has been laying people off left and right, along with cutting hours.

The good news?

I made the cut.

Apparently the management and even the district manager have all been watching me at work, and apparently they're impressed.

Normally when people come in after their first summer at a place like Lowe's (or Home Depot) they'll put the person in an easy department such as Hardware, or put them on register or cart duty.

Apparently since the management has seen me take the initiative to learn all the lift equipment, and my ability to work with very little to no instruction, I am going to be moving directly to the Commercial/Contractor sales desk. This means very little manager intervention while I'm working.

Of course, there is a catch -- I'm going to be their pee-on for a while. BUT, I'm gonna change that quickly by teaching myself every function necessary on the computer system (i.e. register, special orders, recieving, delivery prep, etc)

Along with this is going to come a raise. Human Resources said it would be between 75 cents and 2 dollars, but I'll believe it when I see it. They wanted me to go full time too... I can't because of school.

Another downside to this is the fact that Garden is going to be extremely understaffed with the departure of myself and three other people who have put in for transfers in-store and otherwise. I feel pretty bad for the people who will be stuck out there. Most likely I'll be picking up shifts to help them out if my hours aren't sufficient on the contractor end.

I would probably pee my pants if I got the 2 dollar raise, but I won't count those chickens, because those chickens have botulism. And nobody needs food poisoning.

botulism. ha. Only pineapples can have botulism.
