The Last Stand Of The Pink Elephant..
This morning at 8:00, car alarms all over downtown Miami went off as an explosion rocked the area. Demolitions experts had strategically placed dynamite through the Miami Arena, and the coral-colored facility was imploded. Built less than twenty years ago, this facility was deemed a failure from the start - a symbol of the revitalization of Miami that never really got off the ground. The building earned the nickname "The Pink Elephant" - as it soon became unwanted.. In 1998, when the American Airlines Arena was opened very nearby, Miami Arena's fate was sealed. The Heat, then the Panthers pulled out, and all concerts relocated to the newer venue.
Wow..let's see what was seen at the Arena off the top of my head.. Elton John twice, The Kiss Makeup Reunion Tour (with Verve Pipe opening), Bruce Hornsby, Bonnie Raitt, Campbell's Soup Stars On Ice (I get a bonus punch on my 'card' for that one), WWF Raw(!), I know I'm forgetting something..
