A Song A Day: Friday Con Queso 221 / 145

Somebody has to write about these things..

KLAATU - "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" (Capitol, 1976)
So, the story at the time was that Klaatu were the secretly reunited Beatles. Never mind that a lot of the music didn't really sound like the Beatles, desperate music fans would cling to any chance of a reunion at that point. But the rumor was prevalent enough that many people picked up the album, later feeling duped when the truth was proven to be otherwise. Still, it was kind of a cool record - "Sub Rosa Subway" is pretty terrific, and so is the lengthy statement "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" - later covered, of course, by the Carpenters, and labeled the "official anthem of World Contact Day".
For those of you who don't have that date on your Outlook, World Contact Day was an event organized by  Albert Bender and the International  Flying Saucer Bureau. On March 15, 1953, believers were to meet and attempt to telepathically contact extraterrestrial entities on behalf of earth - hence the "calling occupants"..
Since it's cheesy Friday and all, and there's no video of Klaatu, because that's how you could tell that they were really the Beatles, here's the Carpenters' video for "Calling Occupants":
