ROGER WATERS' THE WALL
Amway Arena, Orlando, FL
Saturday, June 16, 2012
Got up early on Saturday, and headed to Orlando after my workout. Had a killer Curry Tofu wrap at a great vegan place called Ethos - will definitely be back. Then, a visit to Rock and Roll Heaven, which is probably the best record store left in Florida. It's one of those stores that has every inch of wall and most of the ceiling covered in vintage promo memorabilia, where one could easily spend all day looking in the dollar bins and the singles room.
Then, made my way to the Amway Center (Amway? Really? Now that's creepy). There was a table inside the entrance manned by employees, providing exchange upgrade tickets. Not sure what happened, but there was a section in the lower club level that had not been filled, and I was a new occupant of one of the seats. From nosebleed to lower club. Score!
It was a given that the show was going to be special, but it still far exceeded all expectations. It was a total sensory overload - from the astonishing opening of In The Flesh?, with the pyrotechnics, I was hooked.

As I sat there, I couldn't believe that I was actually seeing these songs performed live - favorites like Goodbye Blue Sky, and Don't Leave Me Now. The incredibly moving montage of Bring The Boys Back Home, and the sheer beauty of Comfortably Numb brought me to tears. The moment when the guitar solo ends and Roger hits the wall was the emotional peak for me, as I stood there basking in the visuals:

Roger Waters looks and sounds amazing for pushing 70(!), and the band sounded just fine.

I spent most of the next day driving back home, playing the album on repeat, and reflecting. Definitely the best show I've ever seen. I hope he will tour it again. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

D-d-d-did-you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?
