I'm making a friend here in Hawaii of a quirky LITTLE woman. I think she's like 4'10" or may 4'8" and about 80 lbs with the ends of her hair dyed red. Chinese or Japanese but born American.
Anyhow, in January Liberty Mutual insurance called her. They insured her car but her house for the last 20 years had been with Allstate. They could save her money, they promised, if she bundled car and house with them. She had them mail her info, saw that the rates were lower, and went with them.
Last month her house burned down.
Since electric rates are so high, lots of people use candles for lights and house fires because of candles are quite high. That's what happened with her. She had a candle in her bedroom and it caught fire. The bedroom was fully involved before they realized that there was a fire. They grabbed what they could and got out.
"What they could" was like their car that they pushed out of the garage because her keys were in her bedroom. Left behind was the animals they couldn't find because of the smoke. Her parents ashes were left on the alter (but survived). Her photo albums burned. Her computer is toast. Her recipes handed for generations gone forever.
The fire marshall and the insurance inspection guy stated it was clear open and shut accident.
Liberty Mutual, however, says that since she recently got insurance through them that she fits the profile of arsonist and have been dragging her through hell. Next week they've set up a meeting where she needs to swear under oath that she didn't set fire to her house. She thinks since she hasn't done anything wrong, she doesn't need a lawyer to come with her. Also Liberty Mutual has bullied her into believing that if she brings a lawyer, they'll make the collection process go twice as long.
Ask me, Liberty Mutual is being a couple asshole in this case.
