Go from THIS image to
in PSP-X.

Image found at animestocks.com

Crop & Resize to icon size.
Right click the background layer and promote it to a raster layer.

Sharpen the layer once & duplicate it. Set the copy layer's blend mode to screen. The icon should appear brighter now.

Create a new layer, fill it with #ff49bc, and set the blend mode to lighten. It'll look like this

but we're just getting started.

Create another new layer. Fill the layer with #ff9f9d and set the blend mode to burn. The image should be fading away slightly.

New layer. Fill it with #ff2b15 and set the blend mode to to screen. The image should be coming back again.

Go back to the first layer and duplicate it. Set the copy on top of the other layers, in hard light. My icon now looks like this.

Now, I'm going to take THIS texture from
colorfilter and lay it on top as a new layer, with the blend mode of screen. After applying the texture, the icon looks like this.

The next step is to add some text or using a text brush. I used an icon text brush from
haydens__hunnie on a new layer and put the blend mode as overlay.

Finally, I added a border using the color #604438 instead of black to match the interior of the icon. The final outcome?
