The night Scott Brown won, I posted on twitter:What a relief for the democrats! They can go back to asking for cash, pinning any lack of action on a mere 18 seat lead in the senate.
And now, an anonymous Democratic Senate staffer writes in to TPM:The worst is that I can't help but feel like the main emotion people in the caucus are feeling is relief at this turn of events. Now they have a ready excuse for not getting anything done.
How about that.
Cry all you want about the left deserting the Democrats, but this shit isn't happening in a vacuum. Democrats have squandered the biggest mandate they had in years by subscribing uncritically to this ridiculous idea of political capital as something that can be stored indefinitely and that is depleted with every action they take, good or bad.
