Author's comment: Some time post-AJ. This sort of positive-ness regarding Machi's future seems out of character for me? ^^;
The sun rose one morning. There was nothing special about that. From a distance one could see Los Angeles was cloaked in a dreary cloud of smog. That was ordinary as well. Machi Tobaye awoke at seven o'clock A.M. without the help of an alarm clock just like he did nearly every other day of the year. He lived alone now, but his adopted family were only a few blocks away; convenient enough if anyone needed anyone else for some sort of assistance or just to be together.
But Machi sat up that morning and looked out his window at the cool winter brightness and his first thoughts had nothing to do with any of the troubling events and actions that had troubled his life for as long as he could remember. "Is going to be nice day," he told himself. There was no need to lie to himself. He only said it because he really felt so.
It took two days for him to even remember. It felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Past crimes, past sorrows- they weren't forever. "Even for me, this is turnabout."
