Sometimes good things come from bad things.

I'm so very excited because starting this fall I'm going to have the coolest work-study job ever. Portland Impact has a SUN school program at an elementary school really close to my house and I'm going to be teaching a couple after school classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 6, 7, and 8th graders. The volunteer coordinator at this particular school wants me to be a liason between the Portland Media Project and the Fernwood SUN school, filming a movie with a group of kids that is going to focus on the skateboarding culture in Portland. Even though I'm really excited to help out with this class, my secret ambition is for the kids to help me learn to ollie better...

On the other side of things, Portland State is (as I have always known) a hell hole of a school that should warn students upon entry: YOU ARE JUST A NUMBER. NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU. NO REALLY, WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK UNLESS YOU GIVE US LOTS OF MONEY. In reality I guess that's the way it is with all schools because of how fucked the higher education system is in this country. It's really disheartening.

Last night was fun. I got drunk after a mere 3 beers and proceeded to watch reruns of the Russian synchronized swimming team on YouTube for a few hours. And then watched a TED talk on mycelium (mushroom spores).

Speaking of mushrooms...I'm going to a mushroom cultivation seminar tomorrow in hopes of learning how to turn my backyard garden into a bed of beautiful mushrooms that will not only revitalize the soil, but taste yummy. Lots of note taking will ensue.

Come on. Sarah Palin? Really? I feel as though McCain is attempting to win over some of Clinton's supporters who were bitterly disappointed at the news of her defeat. One the flip side, McCain can no longer argue that Obama's lack of experience is a reason to keep him out of the White House. Palin is an Evangelical "Hockey Mom" (as she put it...guess they don't have soccer in Alaska) and it is actually really frightening to think of her as VP. So little experience, so close to the presidency. Yipes. If McCain wins the election, I'm moving to New Zealand.

I really want to start pushing my art in a new direction. I've been feeling a little to comfortable lately in terms of my productivity. What I really want to do is push all my boundaries (concept, medium, and work ethic) into a whole new level. The last couple years have been a great learning experience and period of growth in terms of my work, but I really want to go the next level, so to speak...it sounds really cheesy, but I just feel kind of stagnant at the moment.

There is a high probability that kittens will be coming to live with me soon. I don't know if I can afford it yet, but I'm hoping to figure it out.

Ok enough rambling.
