He had told himself he'd never go back to that bastard. Once he was free, he had left, gone home; he had left that bastard looking after him, defeated. He had marched on until he had gotten home, finally, remembering the past events of when he had made this journey those years ago, as a child.
Romano couldn't help but sigh as he looked at the faded photograph. There, Spain, grinning like an idiot; himself, looking grumpy, blushing a bit. He thought, now, he could feel a trace of a smile coming back; he squashed that feeling and growled, throwing the photo aside.
Things were left better unsaid. Memories like that were better forgotten.
After a moment, he knelt down and picked up the photo, letting the dusty light from the lone window of his old room shed its weak force on it. A brief smile touched his face; this was ruined as a bubbly laugh arose from outside his door. Hurriedly, he shoved the photograph away, traces of the smile gone.
Dammit.
