"You'd do better on my side," Seifer says to Squall, their gunblades locked and held, their faces inches apart. Squall summons the smile he's never felt, curls the edges into a smirk worthy of Seifer himself. He doesn't dignify Seifer's words with an answer. Seifer already knows he's never wanted the same stupid, empty sorceress dreams Seifer's lived on for years. Squall's not even sure why Seifer's bothering to say it.
For a moment, Seifer doesn't say anything, sliding his blade free and jumping back -- lunging forward again, quick to be on the offensive. Squall takes a defensive step back, makes Seifer work for it, lets him clash with him again. Out of the corner of his eye he sees Zell bouncing from foot to foot, ready to help him, and he grits his teeth and frees his blade again, slashes at Seifer.
"You'd be better off without the parade of idiots," Seifer says, because no doubt he sees Zell too, and Quistis with her whip ready in her hand, and Rinoa watching him with anxious eyes.
For once, Squall can honestly say that no, no, he wouldn't be, really.
But he's hardly going to say that to Seifer.
