Yuuri sat in the corner of Tomorrow Research, no, not Tomorrow Research anymore, Tatsuya’s apartment, and rubbed at her temples tiredly. What a mess. Tatsuya still missing, timeline changes all over the place making their job ten times harder, oh, and something making Ayase homicidal. Couldn’t forget that last one.
She looked over at her friend, taking in the strained expression on his face and the way he was forcing himself to remain calm. She had a good idea of what he going through, remembering only too well when she’d been in a similar situation and the only thing that had saved her, stopped her from killing someone, was Tatsuya. Tatsuya could probably stop Ayase as well, if he were here; he’d always had the knack of getting through Ayase’s walls when no-one else could and they needed that right now. How much longer would it be before they’d have to restrain Ayase, keep him from following through on the drive to kill Domon? Or possibly Ken, both of them seemed to have made themselves into targets somehow.
Currently the only thing standing between Ayase and a murder charge was Shirogane, GaoSilver. Born during the Heian era, possessed by an evil force and sealed away only to be revived a thousand years later. Apparently with no ill effects and she would love to know how they’d managed that. Not that she was complaining about his presence, or that of his teammates. Sion had dug up data on the Gaoranger team and she had reluctantly agreed that they seemed competent enough. Besides, they would probably need all the help they could get.
Actually, forget the ‘probably’ part, they did need all the help they could get and if Shirogane hadn’t been here then there would probably have been bloodshed by now. How had he done it though? she wondered, staring at the pair intently, her eyes narrowed in concentration. Correction, how was he doing it? He didn’t really seem to be doing anything except sitting there. Hang on… was that…? Was he…? He was. Shirogane was stroking Ayase’s hair. She blinked in astonishment, trying to fit the puzzle pieces together while they were flying around inside her head, just out of reach.
Shirogane was soothing Ayase by touch. Who would have thought that would work? Ayase had always kept his distance from them, less so since their return to the 31st century, but still noticeable. The only person who he’d been anything like tactile with was… Tatsuya. Of all them, only Tatsuya could have got away with doing what Shirogane was now. What did that mean? And why was it that Ayase could be so comfortable with someone he’d only just met when he still kept his distance with them? It just didn’t add up. However, logic didn’t seem to have much of a place here and maybe she should just be grateful that Shirogane was here, that Ayase was comfortable enough around him to let him get that close.
They needed to reverse this, whatever had been done to Ayase, and do it quickly. If they were going to get Tatsuya back it would need all of them and she didn’t care what Tatsuya had said about them going back to the 31st century, she had no intention of going back there until they’d done what they’d come to do. Neither would the others, of that she was positive, so they were here for the duration. Maybe even longer. And this time, this time she would make sure there was no way Ryuuta would be able to hurt any of them ever again.
