Here I Go Again
"Well, hello there," Fai says.
He's talking to a dog. It had appeared by the mage's side out of nowhere, stopping to look up at him as it was passing by. The dog simply stares at Fai curiously, and doesn't respond with words, as expected.
"Aren't you cute? I think so," Fai says in a child-like voice, reaching down to pet the animal. "Who's a good dog?"
Suddenly, the dog starts barking wildly, causing Fai to quickly pull back his hand before being bitten. Fai watches helplessly as the dog barks furiously, appearing to be irritated by something he had said or done, and he can't help but wonder what had caused him to make such noises.
"I'm sorry," he says quietly. "I'll leave you alone now, and you can be on your way."
It seems pathetic to say such a thing to an animal that can't even understand, but Fai doesn't care. Somehow, the situation seems all too familiar to him, and he feels that what he's saying is appropriate. Still, the dog insists on yelling and following him wherever he goes, and Fai only gets rid of him by returning to the café and closing the door on the animal, trapping it on the outside.
Fai immediately sees Kurogane inside, preparing to leave for sword training. Upon seeing the mage, he asks, "What the hell happened to you? You look exhausted for some reason."
Fai can only sigh.
Here I go again.
