When The Time Comes
For Fai, one of the best things about the journey is making Kurogane's life as irritating and miserable as he possibly can.
Nothing seems to be right in the world at the end of the day for Fai if he doesn't hear Kurogane curse at him at least once a day. Also, the mage's smile is even more forced if someone in the country they're in doesn't look at the ninja strangely because he's yelling at the top of his lungs for some reason or another.
Sometimes, Fai will think about the time where Kurogane will leave the group permanently for the country of Nihon. It's where he belongs, Fai knows, but he doesn't like to think that. As he imagines Kurogane leaving them behind without a single sign of regret, he has to convince himself that the emptiness he feels within him is because of the future days where there will be no screaming and name calling. He has to tell himself constantly that it's not because he'll miss the way Kurogane looks at him or how he'll miss the sound of his voice. It's not that at all, he thinks, but still, in the end, he knows he's not fooling anyone but himself.
