Disclaimers: One Piece belongs to me. I found it in my garden the other day. I'm serious.
”Twohundredsixteen years, eight months and eleven days.”, Sabo said with a deep sigh, looking up from his calculations. He threw the notes up in the air, and watched them float down to the ground from the tree he and Ace sat in. The other boy sat with his legs on each side of a branch, dangling his feet back and forth while chewing on a long straw of grass.
“It's a half eternity! We are never going to be pirates like this!”, the boy continued with an annoyed voice, pushing down his top hat over his ears.
Ace rubbed the back of his head, and spat out the straw.
“And old man Jirou won't give us more?” the black haired boy asked, looking through the crown of leaves towards the market where an old man called Jirou and several others sold different merchandise you otherwise couldn't get a hold of in the Grey terminal.
“He says that we are a couple of brats that's not even worth what he's giving us.”, muttered Sabo, sticking out his tongue in the market's general direction.
It wasn't easy trying to be a pirate when you were broke, that was a fact the two boy had learned the hard way. And as if having no money for a ship wasn't enough, all the grown ups laughed at them, and told them that it was a great game they had come up with. Ace hated adults, and Sabo couldn't do anything but agree.
“Then we won't work for him anymore!” Ace suddenly uttered. “Come on, Sabo! Aren't we supposed to be pirates!”
“How can we be pirates without a ship?” Sabo looked dumbfounded at his friend.
“We'll steal money for a ship! 'Cause that's what pirates do! Steal stuff!” Ace waved his arms high in the air, and Sabo had the throw himself forward to grab a hold of the raven's shirt sleeve so he wouldn't fall down from the tree.
“We can't steal so much money!”, Sabo hissed when Ace had finally settled down and was no longer falling to the ground. “That would take ages!”
“As would working for old man Jirou. Damn, he won't even be around that long!”
Looking into the eyes of his friend, Ace put his hands on Sabo's shoulders. With an unusual serious voice he talked.
“This is the Grey Terminal. People die here everyday. That's why we want to get out of here, right?” Sabo only nodded as an answer and Ace continued. “But, the Grey Terminal might even help us with that. Come on, what could be better than robbing the scum of the world from they own booty?”
The freckled boy patted Sabo's shoulder and his face lit up with a huge grin. Nodding, he begun his climb downwards and Sabo followed his lead.
“Are you serious about this?” the blond boy asked when they were down on the solid ground again.
“Yepp!” Ace replied. They stood on the top of a hill, looking down on the foul city that was the Grey Terminal. “And I've got a hell of a plan to start this with!”
----
A few hours later
Limping up on the same hill where they had stood earlier that day, Sabo glared at Ace. “I told you that it was a bad idea!”
Both the boys sported a black eye each, and both of them had various bruises all over their bodies. Clothes were torn and Sabo had gotten big rip in his precious hat.
“Bad idea?” Despite his injuries, Ace still grinned. “I thought it went pretty well. You are supposed to make a grand entrance you know!”
“Not while robbing a casino full of bandits! Then you're supposed to sneak away from there!”
“I never run!” Ace stated, looking around at his partner in crime. “Plus, you can't call it a failure when we actually got something.”
Sabo's eyes were filled with doubt when he started emptying his pockets. A couple of spoons fell out, but none of them were in silver. Along with the spoons, Sabo had collected a few colored poker chips, a deck of playing cards, one lone leather glove and a little change in coins.
“This rubbish was worth all that?”, he asked, showing Ace his booty.
Not answering the question, the raven asked another one instead:
“How much money would we have made if we'd been working for Jirou instead?”
“About 50 Belis, each.”, he answered after counting on his fingers. “That's more than I've got.”
Still with his grin glued to his face, Ace rummaged around in his deep pockets.
“Say, is 50 Belis more than this is worth?” Dangling from his fingers hung a long pearl necklace with a huge diamond. Gaping, Sabo stared at it for some very long seconds before he copied his best friend's huge grin.
“I told you it was worth it!”
