The horrific music filled the overcrowded living room. Dozens of people shuffled to get to either the nearest table or restroom. Keiko leaned against her tiny corner and wished to be elsewhere. This wasn’t supposed to end up like this. Who was she trying to kid? All their dates ended up badly as of late, nothing went right. No matter what she did he always got bored or they would end up in a fight. Shouldn’t things be better now that they had crossed the lines of friendship? What was she doing wrong? Maybe she needed advice on how to make a man happy. Hell, she knew she wasn’t the easiest person to live with. Every moment she tried to make him happy and to become closer. Still there was a gaping distance between them. She didn’t think she could cross it even if Yusuke himself were to give her a flying toss.
This party had been Shizuru’s idea. Tonight was Halloween, so the party was fit to that idea. Rules were everyone had to be in costume and had to remain until they left. No taking their clothing or masks off. Even if you knew who others were, you had to stay in the spirit of things. She so wanted to leave, the makeup was making it even hotter. Didn’t Shizuru have air conditioning? With all the bodies the air inside was humid and dank. Better yet, who the hell were all these people? Friends and co-workers had brought their own friends and so on. The party was becoming a loud one. She’d decided to come dressed as a fairy. Her outfit was a light brown, almost the color of cream. The top resembled a bikini tied around the neck. While the skirt was simply wrapped around her tied at the side. The edges looked jagged as if cut by a blade. She’d come shoeless to make it work. Tips had been applied to her ears giving the pointy effect and silk wings adorned her back. The makeup was simple consisting of a little eyeshadow and some glitter around then and across her cheeks. Soft pink lip gloss applied evenly over her mouth. She’d put her hair up to show off the ears, pulled back with a ribbon to match the outfit.
Yusuke had gone shopping with Kuwabara and Kurama last week for theirs. Her long time boyfriend had chosen the classic Zoro get up. It didn’t go well with hers but that was Yusuke for you. He had the suit, cape, mask and hat to finish up the outfit. Kuwabara was dressed up as the Grim Reaper. It didn’t suit him in her opinion. The two were standing not far from her talking to Hiei and Yukina. She was surprised that the little man had taken the time to show up. It actually irked her for some unknown reason. He was one of their former teammates and friend. It was the way she often caught him looking at Yusuke that bothered her. It wasn’t right for him to stare at the other boy so intently. What was worse she often saw Yusuke looking at the little guy with longing. It didn’t make sense to her but it did. Her mind was screaming out the options but she didn’t want to accept what it was saying. There was no way that it could be true.
The more she forced herself not to think about it the more it taunted. She’d always been the one to start everything between them. She was the first to kiss him that day. He’d always been a pervert but that didn’t mean anything. Despite how she denied it, he hadn’t kissed her back that day. It was their first kiss and he’d stood there like an idiot. Not returning the affects that she’d been holding onto for over two years. Should that have been her first sign? Was she a big fool for loving a man that wasn’t in love with her? Was she even in love with him?
Two months ago she’d had a talk with Shizuru. The older girl said there were things you felt when you were in love. The need to be with that person. Missing them whenever they were aware. That longing so deep it felt like physical pain. She’d missed Yusuke those two years but it hadn’t been that bad, nothing painful. Also, where was the magic when they touched? Something was definitely missing in their relationship. While he looked at her with care she noticed the intense looks he gave the other male. The thought that she’d lose her boyfriend to another man was unnerving. But they old saying went, ‘The heart wants what the heart wants.’
The thought of them splitting just filled her with a sense of failure and nothing else. Wasn’t that a sign also? Shouldn’t she feel like her heart was being ripped out or something close? They’d always be close friends even if it came to that. Even now Hiei was getting more attention than herself. The two were bickering as usual but she saw something else underneath. She couldn’t remember the last time they’d had sex.
Shizuru came over to the small group laughing, drunk off her ass. She wrapped her arms around Yusuke and whispered in his ear. The boy laughed at the comment only he heard. Both of them turned to look towards her suddenly. It should have pissed her off but she was past the point of caring. What she needed was some time away from this noise. "Hey Shiz, mind if I go to your room for a bit. I’ve got a really bad headache."
"Sure, go ahead. I’m going to stay down here and entertain these guys." She took another swig of the beer in hand. This was one hell of a party. The only one that looked not to be enjoying themself was Keiko. Yusuke was sure in a good mood though. The only one missing from their little gang was Kurama. She hadn’t caught sight of the red head all evening. Then again he’d called and said he didn’t think he could make it.
"Thanks, coming Yusuke?" She tossed the offer towards her boyfriend. As much as she wanted to get away from this noise she also wanted to talk to him. He’d barely spoken to her all evening. He needed to get his head out of Hiei’s ass for a change. Hell, she wouldn’t be so angry if it’d been Yukina. At least she was another female.
"Yeah, I’ll be there in a minute." He barely turned his head in her general direction then went back to the topic being discussed.
"Don’t do me any favors." She muttered under her breath and began to walk towards the stairs. Shizuru had bought a nice two story house over a year ago. There were five rooms in total, a spacious living room, dining area and kitchen. Being a regular visitor she headed for the master bedroom. There was a normal room where she’d stay but she didn’t put it against any of the other guests to make use of it. All knew to stay out of Shizuru’s or there would be hell to pay.
Kurama watched the girl enter the bedroom and frowned. The only one that knew he was here was Hiei. He didn’t feel up to mingling just yet. It had taken a lot to decide to even show. Not that he couldn’t tolerate being in the crowded place. Crowds never really bothered him much. It was knowing that the couple would be here. For the last year he’d been avoiding the two like the plaque. Her mostly, since he saw Yusuke regularly. She had no reason to seek him out since they’d never been too close. He had to admit it even hurt to hear Yusuke speak of the girl.
Since the Dark Tournament he’d always found her to be different; special. She was merely human but had spunk. Knowing she belonged to Yusuke he simply admired her from afar. It wasn’t until that day Yusuke came back that he realized the truth. Seeing her that day standing there outside that window. He’d been caught up in how much she’d changed. The young girl had turned into a beautiful lady. On the train to Genkai’s he’d watched her the whole way, unable to keep his eyes off her. Life had dictated that she was not to be his. The same day he realized he had feelings for her, Yusuke returned to claim her.
A year had passed since then. Months in which he’d kept away from the girl hoping it was merely just an infatuation. Seeing her now he knew it was not. He still craved her and wanted to take her for his own. He’d heard the invitation she’d given the other man but Yusuke had yet to leave the party. The boy didn’t look like he would anytime soon. Instead he foolishly kept playing around with the others. Why would he pass up an opportunity to be with the girl?
What he wouldn’t give for such an open invitation. Glancing back he made sure that the boy remained downstairs. The door was closed and no lights could be seen from inside. He wondered if he was making a mistake by walking inside. Without no lights she would no doubt mistake him for the boy below. Having went shopping with the two he’d spotted the same custom. He’d left before the two had made a decision, having decided not to attend. Ironic that Yusuke had chosen the same as himself or maybe it was fate. Wanting to fit the part his normal hair was tucked inside a hairnet and a short black wig adorned his head under the hat. Was it giving him a chance to have one night with the girl?
Seeing how far he could get the door slowly opened for him. It creaked as it gave him a view of what was inside. She was sitting on the edge of the bed looking wistfully out the window. Hearing the door she turned in his direction. A soft smile greeted him and he almost frowned. That smile was meant for Yusuke not himself. Only a small amount of light filled the spacious room. He could barely make her out, she probably couldn’t see much of anything.
She was shocked that he’d come. Did this mean she was wrong? Was it possible that he really did want to be with her? She couldn’t make out anything but the outline of the large hat and his shoulder line. They’d been together enough she didn’t need light. It almost felt wrong as he walked towards her, almost impatiently. He was standing before her suddenly, only inches from where she sat.
Kurama almost flinched when the tiny hand reached out to grace his stomach. The light touch sent waves of heat cascading through his body. Just the small action was enough to get his blood flowing. He told himself he should turn around and walk out the door but his body refused to obey the single command. Instead his member stiffened as the palm ran along his chest. Before he could speak she moved back and laid across the large bed. She smiled and patted the bed next to her. It was an offer he didn’t want to turn down. It would be wrong to take advantage of her. Yet as he scolded himself, his body moved across the mattress.
His mind began to run in circles. He had to be careful or she’d soon realize that it wasn’t Yusuke in the room with her. The hat would have to come off most likely. As long as she didn’t go snatching at his hair then the wig should stay on. He wasn’t sure how much alike him and Yusuke’s bodies were. They were both tall and lean. Reaching out he grabbed a hand, pulling her up against him both standing on their knees. If things turned bad he wanted just one kiss.
Keiko let herself be led against him. The hand caressing her cheek was gentle. It almost made tears spring free, the touch was so loving. He’d never touched her like this before. The warm palm cupped her chin to bring her face up. She could barely make out the lines of his face and the mask before his mouth descended. The first touch of his lips were soft but firm. She couldn’t remember his lips being so soft. Giving into the sweet feeling she returned the chaste kiss.
He felt elated when she relaxed against him then gave in. His tongue darted out to taste the delicate bottom lip. She moaned and parted them further. Cupping her face, his other hand wrapped around her waist. He took control by forcing his own wet muscle deeper. The girl placed her hands upon his chest as he plundered the inner sanctum.
Keiko felt her knees going weak and her limbs turn to jell-o. When the hell had he learned to kiss like this? She felt dizzy as he coaxed her tongue into playing. It was sending shivers down her spine, awakening her desires. She hadn’t been thinking about this when he’d entered the room. Now, she couldn’t deny that she wanted him. Spikes of pleasure were coursing through her veins with each thrust of his tongue.
Kurama almost bite down in shock when the hand dipped lower coming to rest on his aching shaft. He wouldn’t have pegged her as being so bold. The skilled fingers wrapped around the thickness, rubbing it through the coarse material. His control was slipping and his patience. He didn’t want to rush this but she was making it hard. The feel of his belt being yanked made him pull away from her mouth. Keeping his head down he gazed between them. His eyes narrowed focusing in order to see. It meant using some of his youkai senses but he wanted to see what she’d do.
Keiko undid the belt first then went for the button. His breath caught when she undid the zipper. Instead of his normal boxers he wore nothing beneath. Not being able to see she let her fingers do the exploring. It ran along the length, the silky skin burning under her touch. Before she could examine further, her hand was pushed aside. A hand grabbed her by the nape of her neck and pulled her against the hard chest. The other she felt reaching between their bodies. As she inhaled the deep scent clinging to him and thought it was off, the fingers cupped her center. Her knee slid across the cotton sheet giving him better access.
Kurama breathed in the scent of her, the sweet aroma of vanilla as his fingers brushed across her warm mound. The thin panties she wore became a nuisance as he rubbed along the folds. She squirmed against him as he applied pressure. The material was damp from her lust. His mind screamed that she thought he was someone else. But he knew it didn’t matter. She was responding to his touch just the same. It didn’t matter if she knew his real name or face. The proof would soon be coating his fingers. She wanted him as much as he did her. Let the foolish boy stay below and fawn over the koorime.
Keiko nearly lost it when the finger finally reached beneath her panties. It slid between her soaked folds to push into her throbbing opening. Her insides were quivering as it pumped in a timely fashion. Each thrust coming faster than the last. Never before had the simple act given her so much pleasure. The tension built as his thumb found her small bundle of nerves. She couldn’t suppress the moans being forced out with each rotation of the digit.
He felt her release break as she clung to him. As it dripped down his finger he released her neck. She was laying upon his chest on her own. The panties were torn easily without her noticing. The sides gave away and he pulled them away from her body. As much as he wanted to see her completely naked and withering beneath him, he knew he was short on time.
Keiko smiled as he fumbled with the pants. Seconds later she felt the skirt being pushed up. He was sitting back on his heels indicating that she should lay down on the bed. They always did it missionary, this time she wanted something different. Instead of doing as she was told she moved forward. Her hands went around his neck as she climbed into his lap. Hands came up to guide her as she wrapped her legs around his slim waist. They latched onto her bottom and escorted her down. The tip was brushing against wet entrance. She couldn’t remember aching this bad before. She had to have him inside her. Pushing down, the length began to force it’s way deeper.
Kurama felt his groin tighten as he began to fill her. The walls gave way and clung to him as she lowered herself down. Not even in his fantasies had he imagined it feeling so good. The hand holding onto his neck tightened, the small nails digging deep. The slick heat engulfed him until he was ready to lose himself in the sensation. Taking a jagged breath he noticed her not moving and she’d gone still. Unsure of the cause he held her close and began to move under her.
Keiko gasped at the feeling. The thick member caressed her inner muscles, stirring her blood. As he pushed deeper she almost panicked. Even while it felt wonderful the truth screamed at her. There was no way it was Yusuke! There wasn’t much difference in the length, perhaps no more than two inches longer. The thickness is what had shocked her. It almost felt like the man was stretching her to the breaking point. Unless he’d had surgery recently then it wasn’t his member buried deep inside her. Should she panic and push him away?
She moaned as he picked up the speed. The motion stroking the tension she couldn’t deny. Her walls clenched him tightly as he moved. Not only was the size a sign but the way he moved. Yusuke’s movements were always rushed. While this man was picking up speed each thrust was perfect with the last. As if he were slowly stoking the fires of her desire. Building her up until she burned up with the heat. No matter what she decided she’d already let him enter her. What was letting him continue for a few more minutes going to hurt? As is she’d already cheated on her boyfriend with a complete stranger. Her body didn’t want him to stop. It wanted more of what he had to offer.
Kurama ran his hand along her spine as she tossed her head back. Did she know the truth? His hips left the bed again, impaling her deeper. She fit him perfectly, as if she were made just for him. The thought made his heart clench. His release was fast approaching as she began to ask for more. The erratic breath made it hard to understand but the plea for faster made his sack tighten. She began to move her hips to meet his thrusts.
She felt the tension reaching it’s peak, the pleasure consuming her. Every nerve in her body felt the waves as they descended. Her screams bounced off the walls as she let it come. She began to shake as she came down to feel him throbbing as he found his own release. The member was still partially hard, another tell-tale sign. Yusuke always deflated completely afterwards. "Who are you?"
Kurama heard the question even if it came out as a whisper. She knew! When had she realized the truth? What was he going to do? It would be cruel to just run away and leave her wondering. Didn’t he at least owe her the truth. She’d given herself to him even knowing he wasn’t whom she originally thought. Why had she done so? His voice came out gruff as she slid away from him, "Are you sure you want to know?"
"Yes, I have to." Keiko didn’t want to know but she had to. She had to know who’d made her feel this way and also whom she’d been unfaithful to Yusuke with. If not she’d always wonder about it to the point it drove her mad. Something about that voice pulled at her heart strings. Should she know it? She had the sudden feeling that she was about to learn more than she wanted to know.
He climbed back off the bed near the lamp. His hands went to work on fixing his pants before reaching up to remove the offending hat and mask. Next came the wig and hairnet allowing his hair to trail freely down his back. As much as he wanted to run from the truth he forced himself to do it. His fingers found the light switch and he took a deep breath.
Keiko felt her heart hit the floor as light flooded the room. NO! As the words lodged in her throat she felt the panic welling up inside her. Even as her body still tingled from the pleasure he’d given her, waves of guilt and confusion assaulted her. Despair quickly followed as her head shook in denial. No, not him. Why couldn’t it have been a complete stranger not someone she knew. Not Kurama, not one of Yusuke’s friends. Why would he sleep with her? The way he’d reacted told her he wasn’t surprised that it was her in the bed. Why would he come into the room and sleep with her? Or did he not know and hadn’t cared whom he was joining in the sack? She knew little of his past just what the others had told her. She’d heard Hiei remark that he was more cold-blooded and heartless as himself. She’d never wanted to believe it.
She stumbled off the bed on the other side. She didn’t want to look at him but couldn’t help herself. The emotionless green eyes were focused on her, watching her every move. There was nothing staring back at her. No guilt, no remorse, and what hurt worst; there was no care. There was no feelings there so she could understand why. It left only one option; he’d come to get a quick piece. Not caring what effect it would have on her life.
He had to force himself to stand there unmoving. Knowing she would hate him now for it. He wouldn’t let her see how much the rejection was going to hurt. She’d get over it faster if she believed it was just a quick rut for him. Would she tell Yusuke? It meant that it might ruin their relationship but he couldn’t regret it. For a brief moment he’d felt what it was like to be one with her.
Keiko reached across the bed to grab her discarded panties. She almost felt like swearing as the tears began to fall. How could she be so stupid? They couldn’t be stopped as she straightened up and moved towards the door. Through the mist of tears she saw him just standing there as if bored. Pain filled her chest as her vision blurred. This couldn’t be happening to her, not now. With a ragged cry she opened the door and rushed into the hallway.
A couple was making out on the stair case and she had to jump over them to keep from plowing them down. It almost caused her to take a tumble. Righting herself she continued down the stairs and headed for the front door. It wasn’t in line of sight of the living room, for that she was thankful. No one stopped her as she rushed outside into the night air. Kuwabara had picked them up so she couldn’t drive herself home. There was no way she could face Yusuke now. No doubt he was still with the others, unaware of her dilemma.
Cars drove past her as pavement tortured her bare feet. None stopped to assist the girl as she made her way home and away from the party. Twenty minutes later she found herself staring into her bedroom window. Trembling hands searched for the hidden key. As the bolt gave way she spun around. The wind howled but she saw nothing. Stepping inside she locked up for the night and headed for the sanctuary of her room.
Yusuke tossed the fork down and grumbled under his breath. He’d been hoping this was easier but he felt tongue-tied. This was Kurama, he’d understand if anyone could. He’d called the man asking him to join him for lunch wanting to talk. His friend did seem lost in thought as he called his name. The usual well dressed man looked like he’d slept in the clothes he was wearing. There were dark rings under his eyes and his hair was unkept. "I wanted to talk to you about something but damn, you look like shit. Are you okay?"
"I’m fine." Kurama lied and felt the guilt begin anew. When Yusuke had first invited him to lunch he’d been sure Keiko had told him the truth. When the young boy didn’t try to attack him on sight he knew she hadn’t. However, the boy looked worried over something. Did he suspect something? "What did you want to talk about?"
"Well, I’m not sure where to start. Remember the party last week?" When the man nodded Yusuke continued. "Something happened and I’m afraid it caused Keiko and I to break up. I know it shouldn’t have happened but it did. I want to be angry but I can’t. I know cheating is a real bad thing."
Kurama felt his blood run cold. So he knew Keiko had been with another man just not whom yet. Was he wanting to know who to be angry at? Maybe this was his chance to make amends with what he’d done. He’d taken the girl without any regards to how she’d feel afterwards, "Yusuke, I...."
"Let me get this out man. When I found her gone I stopped by her house to make sure she was okay. I figured she was pissed at me for ignoring her again. Hell I knew she had a right to be angry with me. When she didn’t answer the door, I made a trip into her room. That’s where I found her sleeping. It was apparent she’d cried herself to sleep. What got me was the smell clinging to her. It was the heavy scent of sex and you."
Kurama didn’t know if he should apologize or hope Yusuke would attack him. It would be within the boy’s right to do so. Maybe he wanted to know what happened. "I’m sorry Yusuke. I can understand if you are angry towards me. I will admit that up until it was too late, she believed I was you. I can’t justify my actions, there is no good reason to explain why I did it. If you are upset at her, don’t be."
"I’m not. That’s the weird thing. I woke her up and she began crying. She told me everything except who the guy was. Till this day she hasn’t admitted his name. I didn’t need her to. We talked and both agreed that we were better off friends. To be honest it was already heading that way. She’s smarter than me that’s for damned sure. See I have feelings for someone else and was trying to deny them. It was a relief to get those out in the opening. Keiko has given me her blessings if I decide to pursue this person." Yusuke clenched his fist as the fox looked away. "Now, look me in the eyes and answer one question. Depending on your answer, I’ll decide if I should kick your ass. Don’t lie to me either, I want the truth. Why did you do it?"
Keiko tossed the remainder of her meal into the nearest can. The cool breeze stirred her long hair as she gazed up at the sky. Another boring day of school. Unable to face going home she’d taken a different route which led her to the park. Yusuke had said he’d be there waiting for her when she got home. Not doubt waiting to fill her in on his latest attempt at seducing the hybrid. She wasn’t sure why he came to her. She couldn’t give him any advice in that area. It must be seeing her accepting the feelings that made him feel better.
She’d known of the feelings but hadn’t wanted to accept it. Perhaps because she hadn’t wanted to examine her own too closely. Why had Kurama’s kiss touched her so deeply? Why couldn’t she forget about that nice. Yusuke didn’t hate her for it. She knew he didn’t hate Kurama because he mentioned attending lunch with him a few times since the incident. Every time his name was mentioned she felt the tugging inside of her chest. Did she care about him as more than a friend? The answers wouldn’t come no matter how hard she tried to search.
She wanted to see him again but knew it wasn’t going to happen. Even if she did happen to chance by him, it wouldn’t change anything. That night had meant nothing to him. She was nothing to him but an old friend best to leave in the past. Was that why she was running away? Yusuke would be pissed when he found out. She could picture him waiting on her doorstep as she walked. In two hours her parents would be home to inform him. They had promised not to mention it to anyone until after she was gone.
At least she had all her papers in order and the bags packed. All that was left was to drive to the train station and leave. She’d spoken her farewell to her parents this morning. They didn’t pressure her for answers. Both assuming she was leaving because of her breakup with Yusuke. If they only knew. It was knowing she couldn’t risk running into Kurama again. Her remaining would put a wedge in their relationship and all for nothing.
They’d agreed to her needing time alone, after she promised to call them after getting to her destination. She wasn’t sure where she was headed, just away. The clouds rumbled as she made her way back to the waiting car. She hoped her parents remembered to collect it.
Yusuke touched the man’s shoulders and gave it a light squeeze. "Don’t worry she probably went off to see a friend or something. She’ll be here soon."
Kurama almost sighed knowing he was worrying for nothing. Still Yusuke had told Keiko he’d be waiting for her when she got out of class. She should have arrived over two hours ago, where was she? He’d barely worked up the nerve to accompany his friend. Would she even talk to him? Allow him to explain?
"There’s her parents now." Yusuke stood up and stretched. Hopefully Keiko would allow the man to talk before losing her temper. He just hoped the man knew what he was getting himself into. She was more than he could handle. "She probably went out with them that’s all."
Kurama had a nagging feeling as the car stopped in front of the house. The couple got out looking weary and no sight of Keiko. He couldn’t sense her anywhere but her lingering scent clung to their clothing.
"Yusuke," Keiko’s mother walked over to him and pulled him into a tight embrace. "I knew you’d be here but I’m afraid you’re too late."
"What do you mean?" Yusuke felt Kurama tense and he almost screamed. "Where’s Keiko?"
"She about to board a train. We left her at the station. She didn’t want us to show but we had to see our daughter off, it’s the least we could do. It’s for the best really. Maybe some time away is all she needs to get over what’s eating her."
"What train? Tell me, what time is she departing?" Yusuke demanded. There was no way in hell Keiko was just running out on them. He’d never known her to be a coward. Had she been hurting and he hadn’t seen it.
"She’s taking the seven o’clock train north, platform number five. It leaves in twenty minutes." Mrs, Yukimora smiled and patted his shoulder. "Now why don’t you two boys go and see if you can fetch her home."
Keiko settled back into the cushioned seat. Why had her parents shown up? She didn’t want any teary goodbyes. Didn’t they understand she couldn’t stay here any more. Doing so was too painful. Closing her eyes she felt her head began to throb along with her ears. "What the hell?" She glanced towards the window and froze. What was he doing here? How had he known where to find her? Leave it to him to ruin her perfectly thought out plans.
Knowing he wouldn’t leave unless she told him to she slid the window open. She didn’t want to deal with this now. Why couldn’t her parents kept quiet for another hour? Groaning, she rolled her eyes, "What do you want Yusuke?"
"Get your ass off the train Keiko. Don’t make me drag your ass out." He yelled over the loud whistle hoping she’d listen. When she scowled and proceeded to shut the glass he grabbed it suddenly. "You don’t want to do this. Get off the train and we can talk. Listen to me, dammit. I know it was Kurama that night. He wants to talk to you. At least talk to him before you run off. Don’t be such a coward."
"I don’t want to talk to him. There is no reason to bother. It was a mistake on both our parts. I’m sorry it happened and that you were hurt by it. Now please leave, I’m not changing my mind." She felt the pent up tears threatened at the crushed look on his face.
Yusuke swore feeling the train begin to move, "Shit. Don’t these people know how to be fashionably late? Keiko, I’m not sure of your reasons for doing it and I don’t care. But you will listen to what he has to say before leaving. Don’t make me blow up the engine, you know I’ll do it. We talked after it happened. Dammit don’t leave, he loves you." He felt his grip loosen as the speed picked up. Her head shot out the opening as he watched her get further away. Where the hell was Kurama?
Keiko watched him become smaller as the words penetrated. It couldn’t be true! Why would Yusuke say something like that? He said they’d talked. Had Kurama told him that? Why? It wasn’t like him to lie. The man was anything but a liar. Could it be possible? She’d never know this way. Groaning she pushed past the large man seated by the isle. She had to get off the train. "Get out of my way."
She stumbled into the isle and looked around. Without waiting and ignoring the people complaining she ran towards the next car. With every car she entered it felt like the train was going faster. Dammit, she didn’t have much time. By now she was risking breaking something if she jumped. The last cart came into view, the baggage cart. Everything was neatly placed along the walls and out the way leaving her room to run.
The latch on the backdoor gave way as she yanked on the lever. It slid open revealing a small platform with railing. Stepping out she could barely make out the station in the distance. They were already going too fast for her to come away uninjured. As she watched the building grow smaller, despair filled her. Was he back there looking for her? Making a choice she tossed a leg up and pulled herself over the railing. She had to be stupid! She’d be lucky if she’d be able to walk after this. Taking a deep breath and a quick prayer she prepared to push herself forward. Arms snaked around her middle as she released the bars. Her back was roughly placed against a hard chest and she began to struggle. No, she had to get off. "Release me, I have to get off."
"Don’t be foolish, at least wait until the next stop." Kurama felt her relax as he dragged her back over to safety. Was she trying to kill herself? Why had she run? Had she spotted him boarding the train? If he’d known she’d resort to such tactics he’d have simply followed her.
She turned recognizing the voice. He was on the train but how? Being so close to him now she felt unsure of what to say or do. Emerald eyes studied her face as her feet touched the platform. Could it be possible that he cared for her? Did it matter if he did? Yes, she wasn’t sure where it would lead but wanted the chance to find out. "You’re here."
"Yes, I wished to speak to you. I wasn’t expecting to find you trying to throw yourself from the train though. If my being here is that distressful then I can depart. No need for you to take such extreme measures."
"Don’t be an idiot! I was jumping off to find you not kill myself." She stopped when realizing just whom it was she was screaming at. He wasn’t Yusuke, she had no idea how he’d react. Instead of getting angry a slight chuckle escaped. "Why did you do it?" The question found it’s own way to the surface, weighing so heavily on her mind.
"I know it was wrong, I shouldn’t have done it. I won’t lie to you. I saw you go into the room and knew you were waiting for Yusuke. I saw it as my chance to be with you. I didn’t think there was a chance I’d ever get the opportunity to be with you. I knew you loved Yusuke but I couldn’t suppress my own feelings. I have wronged you and would ask for your forgiveness. I have caused you great pains." Would she yell now? Or accept his apology. He didn’t believe it were possible for them to have a future but he had to let her know how he felt. That he hadn’t used her for merely sex. "I wanted one time with you because I love you."
Part of her wished she could return the endearment but she couldn’t; not yet. Did he want to be with her still? His hand cupped the side of her face as he forced her to look up at him. She wanted to know if she could have something with this man. When he lowered his head she didn’t hesitate to meet him halfway. The kiss was light but held promise. "Where do we go from here?"
"Wherever you want, besides over the railing." He pulled her against his chest and held her tight. She hadn’t claimed to love him but for right now was just happy for the chance he’d been given. It felt so right to hold her. He had no doubt she was where she belonged. "Give me a chance Keiko. That’s all I ask for."
