“Achoo!”

Kiyomaro shivered, despite the numerous blankets that had been stacked upon his bed. He absolutely despised being sick. He had better things to do than lie in bed all day, such as trying to help Gash recover his memories. However, under the watch of a certain brunette bookkeeper, that wouldn’t happen until he had fully recovered from his cold.

“Kiyomaro-kun? Are you feeling any better?”

Megumi appeared in the doorway of Kiyomaro’s bedroom, a washcloth in one hand, dripping water into the other hand held underneath it. Kiyomaro sneezed again, which Megumi took for a no. She sighed, and gently placed the washcloth on his forehead. Her hand stroked Kiyomaro’s hair absentmindedly, and for a moment, Kiyomaro considered that it might be worth being sick if he had Megumi there to take care of him.

Megumi snapped out of her reverie, and pulled her hand away from Kiyomaro, her face tinted a bright red.

“Oh, I…I’m sorry…” she stuttered shakily. “I wasn’t thinking.”

Although true, it was still a feeble excuse. Yet, to Megumi’s surprise, Kiyomaro merely flashed a shy grin, although his face was just as red as her's. That was most likely a result of his illness though, rather than embarrassment.

“It’s fine,” he whispered. Megumi assumed he had finished, but he continued. “I appreciate you doing this for me.” Kiyomaro gave a hoarse chuckle, then added, “I’d be worried if Gash was the only one hear to help.” With this, he launched into a fit of coughing, which lasted for a few minutes.

“You need to take better care of yourself,” Megumi chided gently, although she couldn’t resist emitting a slight giggle. “You probably spent the entire night reading again, didn’t you? It’s no wonder you got sick.”

The way Kiyomaro averted his eyes gave him away, again causing Megumi to laugh.

“I’m sorry for causing you trouble,” he mumbled, but Megumi shook her head in protest.

“I’m here for you anytime. Don’t forget that.”

Gash and Tio peered through the bedroom door as the two bookkeepers leaned forward until their faces were barely an inch away from each other. For a second, the two demons expected them to kiss, but Kiyomaro coughed, breaking the spell that had taken hold of them.

Megumi jumped up, and announced, her voice louder than necessary, “I’ll go fix lunch.”

She brushed past Gash and Tio, oblivious to their presence. As Megumi passed, Tio noticed a faint smile on Megumi’s face. Kiyomaro wore a satisfied smile as well, too elated by the idea of what had almost occurred to feel disappointed that it had been interrupted.
