“You’re still here.” Presea mused, her little black shoes clicking on the floor as she walked. Even after the party, Raine was still up in her room, though now clad in her regular clothes. Presea had yet to change out of her formal wear, and felt that she wouldn’t for a while, since it’d be a while till they all took a bath anyway. “You should get some rest.”

“I know.” Raine sighed, rubbing her temple. The desk was covered in papers; all kinds of papers! Though as Presea got closer, she silently noted they were all blank… So weird, but probably just something Raine did. “In any case, I have to get this finished….” The woman took the end of her quill and tapped a random piece of paper. Had anyone else been observing this, they’d think she wasn’t quite right. “Ah…. Maybe I should just go to sleep.”

Presea said nothing, just stood by the desk, observing the blank sheets.

She was slow, but eventually Raine found the energy to lift herself out of the chair and totter off into the guest room.

“It’s like she’s becoming an old woman!”

Presea nearly jumped in surprise at the voice behind her. She spun around, coming face to face with a smiling Lloyd. He had beads of perspiration on his head, even though the evening was cool. Perhaps he had been out patrolling? No, they were still in Meltokio, there was no need for that. Whatever the reason, Presea figured she needn’t know. She looked up at the swordsman and shook her head, “She seems quite exhausted as of late. Perhaps we should momentarily prolong our travel?”

Lloyd shrugged casually and rested his hand on a hilt. “Yeah, we got time.” He stretched, looked at the clock on the wall, and bid good night to the small girl. She simply stared after him, then looked at the clock.

‘It’s still early…’ She noted. Why was everyone behaving so strangely? While retreating to her room may have been a good idea, she knew for a fact she wouldn’t sleep a wink. Not this early. Walking outside, she spotted Zelos a ways away with some brunette girl; no doubt what they were talking about… She ignored them and walked in the opposite direction. Zelos had a natural talent for annoying her, even without being near her. Lloyd and Raine were often doing weird things, she thought, so there was no need to worry over them. Sheena, Genis and Colette had yet to show their faces anywhere, and she was beginning to wonder whether or not Raine even noticed the boy’s absence.

Presea came to a stop when she spotted the unmistakable flow of golden hair. Colette stood in front of a fruit stand, still clad in her party clothes, her hair in neat braids. The axe-wielder silently wondered what on earth Colette could be buying at a fruit stand…. Well, the answer to that was obvious.

The real question was, ‘why?’ They’d eaten plenty at the evening party, even though they didn’t spend too much time there. The sun was almost out of sight, and yet the city was still bright.

She stopped in her musings when Colette suddenly whopped around, noticing her almost immediately. The chosen waved enthusiastically, three perfectly round apples in her hands. “You’re still wandering around?” Colette said once she’d walked close enough. Presea just nodded, watching the girl as she beamed and chatted. “So! Um, have you seen Lloyd anywhere?”

“Lloyd?” Presea muttered, briefly forgetting she’d even talked to him along the way here. She nodded her head slowly, speaking in a matter=of-fact tone, “Yes. He went to bed.”

“Ah, really?” Colette blinked in surprise, before smiling sadly. “I see….”

Presea stared silently, wondering whether or not she should have said something else. She sighed and turned towards the fancy in Zelos landed them, “He could still be awake. Let us see.”

“No, no!” Colette waved her hands quickly, nearly dropping her apples in doing so. “It’ ok! Anyway, have you seen Genis?”

“No.”

“Oh…” the blonde swished her feet in the dirt, thinking for a moment. “Well.. it’s pretty dark. He must be with Raine. I’ll see you later, Presea!”

The pink=haired girl watched as Colette skipped off, as if she’d heard not a word of bad news all day. She admired such traits as hers. To be able to shake things off so easily; like water off a duck’s back. Surely Colette had her own worries, like everyone else. Presea just didn’t see them… very often. She slowly made her way back inside, retreating to her room, and finding Sheena on one of the beds shuffling a deck of cards. The woman was so precise in her movements, unconsciously flipping each card into place.

The summoner looked up briefly from her work, “Hey.”

“Good evening.” Presea greeted, sitting on her bed. They didn’t speak much after that, each busying themselves with one thing or the other. Presea laid back on the bed, staring up at the white ceiling. It seemed to her, that all her conversations were like this. Somehow, it didn’t seem fair, but then she’d have to remind herself that it was her own fault. She chose not to speak more than necessary.

Suppressing a sigh, she began to imagine the looks on her teammates’ faces as they talked to each other, smiling, laughing, yelling. It wasn’t fair.

Between everyone’s nonchalant attitude towards her and Genis’s constant ogling, she felt no one really talked to her just for the heck of it. It sounded strange when described that way, but that was all it really was. Idle chatter.

As her mind swam, Presea thought back on that one girl who seemed to have a smile for everyone. That girl who honestly smiled whenever she spoke, no matter whom she was speaking to.

That girl confused Presea.

The door burst open, causing both Sheena and Presea to rise in alarm. A monsterously overstuffed teddy-bear was apparently trying to force its way through the door, a soft voice yelled something somewhere behind it. Sheena yelled, backing against the wall. Presea, being the closest one to the door, held her place, knowing whoever was behind the teddy obviously wasn’t going to assassinate them or anything.

…But the bulging figure was beginning to scare her.

The teddy squeezed somemore, until finally it burst into the room, flying straight at Presea. If the girl believed there was no way to get KO’d by a stuffed animal, she knew better now.

Presea found herself backed up against the bed, literally, with a life-time supply of fluff suffocating her. She heard Sheena’s voice somewhere passed the cotton, yelling, “Whoa! Get it off!”

“Ah! Sorry!” A bashful voice yelled back. There was some shifting, and suddenly a girl crawled over Presea, under the teddy.

Presea gasped, looking into Colette’s eyes in bewilderment. “Wh-what’s happening!?”

Colette smiled, panting slightly, “I wanted to show you guys what Genis got! Isn’t it neat?”

The smaller girl blushed lightly, feeling way too hot all of a sudden. “We’re going to die!” Someone was shifting the bear off the bed, rather roughly, causing their bodies to slide lightly against the other. Finally, the monsterosity was shoved off and out of the way.

“Eh, wow, that was fun!” Colette gasped, still collapsed on top of Presea.

“Fun!?” Sheena panted, winding her arm to get it loose. “Are you nuts? Where on Martel’s green Teth-aella did you FIND this?”

“Genis found it!” Colette beamed, using her arms to lift herself off of Presea, who looked like she’d been knocked out. “Isn’t it cute?”

Presea felt a gush of cool air wash over her forehead. Where it came from, she didn’t know. All she could see was that bright, undying smile on Colette’s lips. Her chest was heaving, and her eyes felt droopy, despite her recent ordeal. So sleepy….
