Summary: There is actually a reason why nature and natural selection did not want Naruto learning and knowing genjutsu no matter what the rest of the shinobi nation thought and we should have just left it at that.
Hinata fidgeted waiting for her new training partner while glancing around the flatland of the training ground. It was perfect for Genjutsu practice, which is exactly what this was, because they would need to rely completely on their state of mind and imagination with help of visual cues from the land. Fisting her hands in the hem of shirt she heard the welcome taps of her partner’s excited footsteps. Turning around she was met with the face of her crush, and a dash of red made itself known on her cheeks as she faced the one she was meant to train with. Even though logically she could follow where the hokage had been going with this, Hinata had a feeling she was being set up for her own benefit.
“Hello Naruto-kun.” She greeted softly, and with-held a small giggle at the pout festering on his lips, it was no secret among the Konoha twelve that Naruto had no skill for Genjutsu.
“Hey, Hinata!” He greeted back, one hand resting on the back of his neck in sheepish embarrassment. “Sorry about this, I know you have better things to do then help me; I don’t know what baa-chan was going on about…” His apology turned into a worthy rant and Hinata merely slipped back into memories until he was ready to learn. Hinata had learned over time it was much easier to teach him something if you allow him to get his rant over so you could have his full attention.
Hinata softly approached the Hokage’s office with her normal demeanor to find her teacher standing there with a half smile. “Hello Hokage-sama, Kurenai-sensei, what do you need?” She asked more to her chest then them, but she still had the shyness that had been with her since her first steps.
“Ah, just the person I wanted to see, I have a ninja in need of a practice partner for genjutsu because it’s a glaring flaw when cannot have in a well-established ninja.” The Godaime stated with a soft smile, and Hinata inclined her head to agree, though she was surprise they chose her out of all the other better ninjas on the roster.
“As you wish Hokage-sama, but who is it?” Hinata inquired, hoping the Hokage would not lash out at her for speaking out of turn.
“Ah, the ninja who needs your help is…” The Godaime was rudely interrupted by the sound of the door implanting itself into the wood of the wall. Like he was summoned by a cue, the ever-familiar figure of Naruto Uzumaki filled the room announced only by the loud cry of greeting. “Him.” The Hokage finished with an exasperated sigh.
“Hey everyone, so it’s Hinata that Jiraiya drafted to help me, thanks Hinata!” He exclaimed with exuberance as Kurenai-sensei giggled into her hand and the Hokage merely grumbled at his acts.
“Brat, don’t enter my office like that, what if I had important dignitaries in here or having a very important, very secret meeting?” The Hokage snapped at the blond male who merely gave his flippant grin.
“Baa-chan, everybody knows you don’t do any work, just drink sake, Shizune-nee-chan complains about it enough.” Naruto responded, only to get slammed into the floor by a disciplinary fist of the Godaime.
“Brat, you are a bad influence in public relations and reputations.” She yelled, and neither of the other two pointed out that their actions would reflect on their reputations.
“Baa-chan, you reputation as the ‘Legendary Sucker,’ is what ruins your reputation.” Naruto grumbled as he stood up from the slam. “Well Hinata-chan, shall we?” He inquired before sprinting from the office with an angry yell following him. Hinata and Kurenai had just blinked, shared a laugh and bowed to the steaming Hokage as once again the blond menace had stayed true to himself.
Naruto’s rant had just began to taper off as Hinata withdrew from her memories and activated her Byakugan consciously as it was time for Naruto to finally pick up some Genjutsu skills.
It was into an hour when Naruto finally made some semblance of progress in the chosen genjutsu. Hinata began to see the tendrils of the tree roots wrapping around her, and she reinitiated her Byakugan as it was draining to keep it on the whole time. The genjutsu wavered and shivered as the genjutsu fell away from the power of her bloodline limit. She nodded in happiness toward his progress and he grinned happily. Begging he convinced her to allow him to try again, and Hinata could never deny him normally.
She felt the great shift of his chakra activating and winced when she realized he had released far too much to actively control the genjutsu. The tree roots flooded her vision wrapping around her and entangling her limbs, and with the force of great chakra it blinded her Byakugan making its genjutsu dismissing near impossible. Her slight panic must have shown as Naruto toned down the flare and her Byakugan came to life, only for her to realize the tree roots were not disappearing. Struggling, her mind was tricked into believing they were real, and she shouted for Naruto to cancel the technique.
Naruto’s chakra died away as did the image revealing why her mind had been tricked. Red dashed across her cheeks and down her neck as she took stock of the situation. Once again, Naruto’s chaotic influence had managed to make the impossible, possible as real tree roots had wrapped around the pair entangling them in a captured hug. Hinata noted he managed to pull the roots from the only tree on the training field, and not having sufficient control or the awareness of what he was doing managed to have them wrapped together in a hug while entangled in tree roots.
Naruto cursed at her side as he tried to snap the roots holding him, and Hinata’s slight fantasy and warmth dashed as she noted what else his chaotic chakra had done. His chakra had harden the roots to such a degree that they were now trapped in its grasp unless one of them could pull off one of their more powerful Ninjutsu. Which of course was improbable because of the close proximity to the roots and each other, and Hinata couldn’t possibly pull off a kaiten like this anyway.
Sighing they realized they were stuck until someone came looking for them, which could be sometime, as it was no where near dark so her family wouldn’t be looking for her. Well if nothing else she was trapped in a hug with her crush, Naruto while embraced by nature, this would make quite a story to her future children. Now if only her thoughts would behave and Naruto would stop struggling.
