Title: Let the Haze Paint the Sky
Author: starrysummer
House: sparklypoo
Date/Challenge: 9/5 - as clouds that veil the midnight moon
Character/Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Genre/Warnings (as applicable): angst
Rating: PG

It's late, and dark now. Remus traces the vein in Sirius's neck with his finger, touches softly, falls silent.

"Say something," Sirius says, as if he's afraid of the silence, afraid of the night that passes without another pulsating dance-beat, another jostling crowd.

"What do you want me to say?" asks Remus, then immediately wishes he could pull the words back within his fingers because he's told himself before that he's not here to be who Sirius wants. He's not.

"Those stars look like a broomstick," Sirius says, after a quick burst of silence, a spit-out sentence laid down after.

Remus wants to hush him, wants to remind him that he's the one who knows the stars, that his bedroom - his old bedroom - had the constellations charmed across the ceiling, cousins' names spelt out in starlight.

But he leans back, hand in hand on stone gaze upwards, and sees a thread of cloud haze over the almost-full, just-uneven yellow-white of the moon.

"Yeah," he says softly, as the silence takes his breath and he thinks better of reminding Sirius that they're looking up at the northern star.
