A/N: Yes, I know I never directly mention the challenge, but trust me, it's there. If you know where I pulled the phrase from, you'll probably see it.

“You’re not a good person, Sirius.” She laughs when he immediately goes on the defensive. “How, and how puffed up you get over it, too!”

“Puffed up!” he exclaims. “I’m just trying to imagine where you, of all people, get off telling me that, Bella.”

Snickering, she tosses her pretty hair. They’re sitting on a balcony, watching a sunset, basking in the ease of a temporary truce forced by circumstances. There are too many Aurors about for her to attack him, and too many of her friends about for him to attack her, and somehow she’s netted him into conversation. “It’s quite simple, really, Sirius,” she states. “I had you figured out when we were five years old. All you want, all you’ve ever wanted, is applause.”

“That’s not true,” he huffs, setting his shoulders back. They’ve grown quite broad as he’s grown up, and his dark hair is hanging in his eyes.

“Oh, of course not,” Bellatrix says, mockery dancing a sprightly waltz in her voice, more musical than the tune floating up from the ballroom. “You want to be noble. You want to do the right thing.” She laughs again, and he starts to stand up, to leave her. “You know it, Sirius. Even if those fools you call friends don’t see it, I do, and I know, and I know it’s what you try so hard to deny.” He meets those black eyes for the faintest moment, matches his clouds to her dark horizon. “You’re only on that side so they can make a god out of you, Sirius. You’re only over there for the glory you can get.”

Setting his jaw irritably, Sirius turns and stalks away, back into the crowd. But despite the noise from the people and the music filling the hall, he can still hear her silvery, mocking laughter.
