Recognizing You
Wind ruffled through his long spiky mess of blond hair. The day was nice and he had always enjoyed the out doors, yet as nice as it was, it did not disguise the pensive expression on his face. Sure his vulpine grin was on his face, but he wasn’t squinting his eyes close to hide what he was thinking. No, his almost electric blue-sky eyes were shifting back and forth with his thoughts. His return with his sannin teacher had revealed a lot of things that he had not seen before, even if he still disbelieved it. He had been standing in this lonely field for quiet sometime, as it was hidden by the hokage mountain. His stomach clenched as his thoughts hit something he rather not think about even though the thought never left him. Anger at his failure was building and he glanced down toward the grass, his eyes caught on something then.
There was a small, but powerful, pink flower before his feet. It flowered out in a spiral similar to a carnation, but the middle petals were closer together. Now most would assume since it was pink, it would remind him of Sakura-chan. It didn’t though, she was powerful yes, with her cherry blossom hair, but she was never petite as this flower screamed it. No, in fact he found that his thoughts drifted to a very different Kunoichi.
Hinata Hyuuga had been on his mind as of late, probably because he was noticing her frequent presence on his missions since he returned. Though, truth be told she had become one of his extremely precious people because of the events in the chunin exam before he had left. She was also one of the first to greet him when he returned, even if she was quiet the whole time. Hinata was a charming puzzle to him, and now that he was a little older, he didn’t think she was weird just a little odd. At least Ero-sannin had imparted some words of wisdom on Hinata that wasn’t perverted, and Tsunade had agreed.
"Hinata is bashful, and needs a spark of confidence to really shine." Ero-sannin had said and Tsunade had agreed with him. Looking back down at the proud pink flower he smiled, and reached a gentle hand to pluck it. Though he may act stupid at times, he had a photographic memory when it counted. He had happened to be awake when Ino lectured on flower language for show and tell all those years ago in the academy. Curling his fingers around the stem of the flower, he grinned wider and set to finding Hinata.
Said kunoichi was standing on the lip of Hokage mountain. She had lost sight of Naruto when he walked off the backside of the mountain, and had not seen the path he had taken. Sure she could use her blood line limit, but her chakra would spike notifying her favorite blond shinobi where she was, and that wasn’t what she needed. So, deep in her thoughts she did not notice said shinobi approach her. The wind had been teasing her dark hair with violet highlights as she surveyed the village of Konoha. When a gentle hand tapped her on her shoulder she whirled and lost her footing.
So surprised she didn’t have time to concentrate chakra to her feet and felt her body leaving the mountain. However, quick hands had her in strong arms and safely back on the mountain. "Whoa there." Naruto’s voice swam over her, and her pale lavender eyes looked up into concerned eyes of blue. A chuckle had her blushing as he released her, before he let go he tucked something behind her ear. "Perfect." He mused and started walking toward the path that would take him down the mountain. Before Naruto completely left her vision, he tilted his head toward her with a smile. "See you around Hinata." He said and then vanished from her eyes.
Shaking in happiness and shock she reached tender hands to what rested above her ear lobe. Soft petals brushed her cheeks as she brought it before her gaze. A peony rested in her hands, and she smiled softly, Naruto definitely had his way of getting his point across. The message he conveyed with the delicate pink peony was sweet. ‘It’s okay to be bashful at times, just remember you are allowed to be noticed too.’ Hinata smiled wider and tucked the flower back into it’s perch. She would wear his message proudly, just like his nindo.
