Bridging the Gap

Hinata shuffled nervously, anxious she kept her fingers in a steeple, tapping them in an unconscious rhythm. The small hustle that surrounded the flower shop gave her little to be comfortable about, and she wonder about all the silent judging. While these thoughts lasted, people began to drain out, and Hinata gulped while looking around. Her watching of Naruto had brought an interesting find, observing as he handed over a plant to Kakashi. Naruto had a green thumb, and a slight understanding of the flower language, so Hinata decided to try to voice her affection other ways.

"Hinata." Ino’s fairly warm voice called, and the shy girl whirled around. Raising her pearl like eyes up from the floor she caught the questioning brow.

"I’m looking for a flower that says friendship." She said quietly, yes she loved the boy, but she didn’t want Naruto to rebuke her yet. Thinking so, with her head down and her dark tinted violet strands of hair shielding her face she missed Ino’s half smirk. It seemed everyone in the world knew what she thought of Naruto, except him and perhaps on a lower level Kiba.

"Hmm, then you’ll want the Ivy." Ino answered after a few minutes. Hinata puzzled over the statement, and then nodded, her pale hands slipping into her coin purse and withdrawing enough money to pay. Hinata shyly began searching for Naruto to give her present, she didn’t notice that Ino followed sneakily behind.

Eventually they ended up at a scarred training ground, Naruto stood facing a set of posts. His blond hair shifted as he twirled and laid one more decimating punch to the post. The post splintered, cracked, but did not tumble from its upright position, no matter how much he glared at it. Sakura’s chuckles drew his blue eyes away from his current enemy to his close friend. "That was close, you’re getting the idea, you control is still a little off." Sakura informed him while demonstrating on another post. All four of them watched as the post crumbled in on itself.

"Still amazing Sakura-chan." Naruto spoke and then settled against his abused post. "However, I want the strength, pure strength, to go with the chakra technique." Naruto stated. "In case I can not access my chakra." He added while looking upward. Sakura nodded in understanding and smiled at the approaching ninjas. "Hey Hinata and Ino." Naruto called before Sakura could.

Hinata startled, flicking a curious gaze behind her to see Ino smiling generously. She wondered why the lighter blond-haired girl was here but still attempted to walked toward Naruto. Unfortunately her legs locked up, and she could no longer approach. Her problem was solved as Naruto basically bounded over and stood a few feet before her. She mumbled and looked down, clutching feverous at the pot that held the Ivy. Its tri-pointed leaves shifted mockingly drawing her attention to it, anxious she thrust it forward.

"I...I want..you to have this." Hinata forced out as Naruto confusedly plucked the plant from her hands. As soon as it was free, she squeaked, backpedaled and began retreating.

"Um, thanks for the weed Hinata!" Naruto yelled in a confused, but happy manner.

"Idiot." Both Ino and Sakura muttered beside him. Naruto glance down at the plant, and smiled crookedly. Surfing his small knowledge, he came up with the meaning for the plant, friendship. Hinata wanted his friendship, he shook his head as a true smile overcame his features.

"Silly girl, she all ready has my friendship." He muttered softly, and hefted the plant up as he started walking off. Naruto completely forgot about the other two girls as he left with a bemused smile.

The two girls shared a soft looked with a smile before glancing at the distancing blond. They then shared a notorious giggle and matching smirks lit their faces. "Matchmaking time." They squealed, not at all detoured by the fact they were rivals.

"I bet you, I can make them fall in love first." Ino chimed while flicking her hair off her shoulder.

"Not on your life, he’s my teammate." Sakura rebuked, and growled threateningly at Ino.

"You’re on!" They declared and flittered off into different directions.

Then again...rivals will be rivals.
