Summary: Ion wakes up to a new sort of hell. (AU diverges shortly after Ion is shot by Tres)

Ion couldn’t remember very much, his mind usually sharp and alert felt as if it were sinking into warm water. Like slow suffocation. There were time he could almost grasp light in the darkness, fleeting glimpses of color and there always seemed to be a throbbing pain emanating from a place he couldn’t find a word for. The world was dark for him, and he wondered if he would ever surface. But slowly, the feeling of drowning faded and he became more aware.

The pain returned first, became a stronger throb. Then sounds came, garbled but they became clearer. Everything cleared as the fog lifted away from his mind and he became aware of one sure point. His entire body ached all over, from the pain in his shoulder to the stiffness in his joints. And worst of all was his head, which was steady working towards a migraine.

He groaned as he rolled over in his bed, the warm sheets tempting him to go back to sleep but the aches in his body wouldn’t allow that. He touched his forehead, his limbs hot from the blankets and a fever.

“Nn… Tovarăş? Where are thou?” The instinct to call for Radu when he was in pain was automatic, but instead of being greeted by his partner, he was greeted by another voice. The voice of the stranger.

“Radu is far away right now, Count of Memphis.”

“Who… who are thou?” Ion stared at this unfamiliar face with apprehension and a minor amount of curiosity. He had an angelic looking face but beneath that, something set Ion on edge. Like there was a predator hiding beneath the surface of that seemingly kind face. His instincts screamed that this person shouldn’t be there. That he shouldn’t be in the place of Radu, telling him that Radu wasn’t nearby to be his protector.

“I’m Dietrich von Lohengrin.” Dietrich stepped towards the bed, a smirk playing over his lips as the Count edged away from the puppet master. Something told Ion that he shouldn’t let Dietrich near him. Make him go away! Bring back Radu.

“Leave us in peace! Be gone!” Ion snapped, baring his fangs and snarling, pointing towards the door. He wanted Dietrich gone. Alarmingly Dietrich only shook his head at the vampiric display of anger and continued closer, tutting Ion’s behavior.

“So rude, I would have thought the grandson of Mirka Fortuna would have better manners.” Dietrich’s hand snapped out and latched onto Ion’s wrist. And from that grip an intense pain was born, starting in his arm and spreading out to cover his entire body, continuing even after his arm was released. It felt as if Ion’s nerves were on fire, he collapsed onto the bed, whimpering from the sheer intensity of the pain.

Dietrich reached out and tipped Ion’s chin up so that the imperial noble was looking at him, the smirk replaced with a frown. “You are mine now. If you try to escape, or try to hurt me, the pain you feel now will be a trifle in comparison.” Dietrich’s hand moved up to Ion’s hair and after a moment of contemplating the near white locks he gripped them in one hand tightly, causing another whimper to free itself from Ion’s throat. “Welcome to hell, your Excellency.” He released Ion’s hair and turned to leave the room, letting the Methuselah collapse back onto the bed, still trembling from pain.

Dietrich stopped at the door and the pain stopped, letting the boy slump onto the bed. “Remember the pain, and the consequences should you try anything.”
