guess he's still there

a buttload of snow blinded me this morning when i looked out my window.  everyone but me was conked in bed--i was up eeearrly to paint my face for church, a place i haven't been to in . . . . never mind.  so jess came to pick me up.  the roads were bad, but jess said she'd gotten new tires and it would be fine.  okay cool.  so off we go.

we're on the highway in about two inches of slush and snow, when the truck in front of us slows way down.  jess didn't want to put her brakes on that quickly (didn't wanna skid) so she went to pull around and pass.  but a huge truck flew by in that lane and didn't let us, so jess had to push the brakes pretty hard to avoid hitting the one in front of us.  we went into a skid, and the car was flying everywhere and in circles, then it pointed itself at the deep incline at the side of the road and flew down.  the car started to tip.  i could feel myself start to fall to the side and my hand flew back to the backseat to grab onto the car seats.  the car was starting to roll, and jessi screamed "help us jesus" and the car SET ITSELF RIGHT AGAIN.  the car stopped moving completely and we just coasted a little into some mud.  seconds before, we were nearly upside down, and now . . . nothing.  just quiet.

then, from the backseat:    "whoa, mami.  you okay?   stuck."

the kids were perfect.  joaquin was ASLEEP.  no one was hurt, incredibly.  thanks to God.  i suppose you can leave Him behind in the wake of your life and forget, but He's still there holding your life in His hands and keeping it safe.  i think about what could have happened if the car rolled while we were spinning that fast and . . . all i can say is thank you.  Thank you for holding my child and keeping her safe.

i'm kinda scared to drive for groceries now.  but i won't let it bother me.  i'll get in my truck later and brave it again.  you can't let fear stop you.  besides, someone is watching and won't let us fall.

the great part of sitting in a ditch in a car for two hours was the LOVELY sheriff who stopped to help us.  dear goodness . . .  i wanted to take a pic of him on my camera phone.
