I'm a lyricist and singer who doesn't play an instrument. I have a good handful of songs that I've written over the years that I would love to be able to actually do something with (besides sing them to myself in the shower). I'm not the best with music so the tunes are kind of rudimentary. The reoccurring theme in most of my work centers around the gay male experience, but some are just straight up love songs. I skip around a bit in different genres (aka I have written at least one country song)but mostly the musical style is just kind of undefined. I'm looking for a musician to help me round them out and hopefully collaborate on new songs too. as for musical influences, I like a little bit of everything but some of my long standing favorites include REM, David Bowie, Pansy Division, Queen, Boy George, Indigo Girls, Tori Amos, Placebo, and Dar Williams.
A little more info about me: I'm 28 years old, living in Chicago. I just got done with grad school for counseling psychology and am looking forward to learning how to balance a career as a therapist with my other ambition, creative writing. I was born female but identify as transgender, though with no plans in place to physically transition any time soon. I'm bisexual (though I prefer the term queer), partnered (to another transgendered individual), and identify primarily with gay male culture (hence all the songs from that perspective).
I don't know what my ultimate ambition is for all of this. Right now I'd just settle for hearing my songs played on an instrument. I do dream of performing and recording though, even if just for fun. Maybe more, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. So yeah, if this sounds good to anybody out there please reply to this entry and hopefully we can get something going.
Sincerely,
Nate
