I want your
sentences.
sentence |ˈsentns|
noun
1 a set of words that is complete in itself, conveying a statement, question, exclamation, or command
THE BREATHING OUT PROJECT is a multi-faceted communication concept that will be explored in three sections:
INTIMATE,
ANONYMOUS & LOST/FOUND. This art project began as a retort to a boredom-plagued Sunday afternoon with a blank paged yellow notebook and a fine-liner pen. After becoming fascinated with the way every person who reads or hears it may interpret one question and answer accordingly, I embarked on a quick-written journey of asking a few people many questions. For example - If you ask someone, "When do you feel most refreshed?" One might answer, "I feel the most refreshed after a nice hot shower," or one might answer, "After jumping into a cold lake." As well, one might interpret it emotionally and consider they feel the most refreshed when they can sense the snow is about to melt, or perhaps when they've learned something new from a surprising source. While one question, or sentence may be interpreted many ways by many people with the same thought, One sentence begun with a single lettered word opens everything up to interpretation to many people with many different thoughts. So...if you are still with me (thank you!) and you are confused, I'm sorry for not making sense. It's really very simple, I promise. I just ask that you finish the sentence "I ... " and participate in THE BREATHING OUT PROJECT.
If you feel like it, finish "I ... " with anything, preferably the first thing that comes to mind, but if you want to let it cook a little longer, that's okay too.
There are a few ways to contribute*.
------
INTIMATE
If you live in Toronto, I would like to meet with you in a public place of your choice. Don't worry, just because I've already said intimate, I promise I'm not prompting you for sex. I will say Hi, and make great attempts at conversation which I will fail at miserably red-faced and darty-eyed, but at some point, I will ask you to write down and finish the sentence: "I ... ". I would prefer it if you waited for me to arrive before you write your sentence, but if you'd rather get it over with, I totally understand. I will then ask you if you will let me take your portrait. It doesn't have to be of your face; it could be the back of your head, or anything else that you so choose to represent yourself even if it's not on your body. Or, if you feel you are best represented behind the camera, you may take the picture yourself and lend it to me to use for this project. All I ask is that it is taken that day, while we are together. If you are like me, and the thought of meeting a stranger at a coffee shop to answer their questions and take your picture is frightening, just know that it frightens me too. As well as collecting bits of unique information about lovely, willing strangers, I am using this project as an opportunity to force myself out of the box; to look at your eyes and to speak to your face. Please send me a
message or
email mentioning you'd like to partake if you are interested in doing this with me. I would really appreciate it. But if none of this appeals to you, don't worry. Maybe consider submitting another way.
LETS SET IT UP NOW SOME INTIMATE SENTENCES COLLECTED:
- I will die, but when?
- I survived.
- I am Batman.
- I am trying.
- I can feel the hair on my wrist.
- I am smiling.
- I _ _ _.
SEE MORE ANONYMOUS
I would like for you to send me your finished sentence: "I ... ". I would prefer it if you sent it through
here, as to keep it anonymous, but if you'd rather you may
email me also. I will not "respond" to the post, but rather, archive your sentence and post some of them here (unless you would prefer i do not until the end/or at all, if you so choose), while others are being collected.
FINISH THE SENTENCE NOW SOME ANONYMOUS SENTENCES COLLECTED:
- I am like a blue balloon who prays to be orange
- I am alone again.
- I am a sore thumb. Ask anyone.
- I wanted.
SEE MORE LOST/FOUND
While it seems in secret here, only X marks the spot.
*As of now, the LOST/FOUND portion of THE BREATHING OUT PROJECT exists elsewhere in this realm. While it remains the most tangible of the three fragments, I have excluded it from this page as a means to reach a different assemblage of minds (though a crossover would be miraculous!).

WHY?
This concept will eventually be compiled into its three respective categories, and displayed in a way which will showcase its contents to best display their message. When time and place present themselves, information will be gathered and shared at once, but for the time being,
you may see pieces and updates of it on this page. Thank you for your patience and your interest, I look forward to reading/meeting you!

*please feel free to contribute as many times as you like.
