Part 10

“When we get out of here, Zhou Mi is so dead,” a new voice growled out from the darkness.

Someone squeaked before Kyuhyun’s reply was heard. “Heechul? … Wait. Why is Zhou Mi going to be dead?”

“Why? Why?! WHY?! I’ll tell you why!”

“Good, because I’m kind of curious now.”

“That… carpet of a Chinese man,” Heechul continued, ignoring Yesung’s remark, “Had the audacity, the gall, the unbelievable courage to force the kissing scene and … wait. What scene is this?” Everyone was too busy laughing from what he had just said to answer him. “No, I’m serious,” Heechul suddenly sounded worried. “What scene is this?!”

“Well, you are the one who would actually know,” Kibum’s deep voice answered. “So why don’t you tell us what scene it is?”

“OH my - This isn’t good,” Heechul decided to rant instead.

“Why?” Lee Teuk instantly went into his worried leader mode. “Why isn’t this good?”

“Siwon’s going to be thrown into the lake and drown!!”

One…

Two…

Three…

“WHAT?!”

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“We’re free!!!”

“Kangin, you don’t have to kiss the ground…”

“Yeah, that’s kind of gross.”

“Shut up,” Kangin grinned, ignoring Sungmin and Shindong as he continued to hug the uncomfortable ground beneath him. “We’re finally out of that darkness~!”

Shindong and Sungmin shared a look before looking back down at the gleeful Kangin. It was rather nice to be out of that eerie dark nothingness. But they weren’t about to kiss the ground for it.

Sungmin was the first to spot Siwon. He nudged Shindong in the side and soon both of them were starring at Siwon and … the carpet… that was supposed to be Zhou Mi? Weird.

“Uh… Siwon?”

“Zhou Mi?”

“Huh?” Kangin looked up and sputtered when he realized that Siwon and Zhou Mi were sitting in front of them. “Oh!” He hastily pushed backward onto his feet and dusted off his knees. “Hey guys… Zhou Mi? … I- This is weird,” Kangin whispered loudly out the side of his mouth to Shindong. “I didn’t actually expect to see a carpet.”

Zhou Mi, said carpet, who had clearly heard Kangin’s unintentionally loud statement crossed his ‘arms’ in a huff and glared at Kangin. How dare people speak about him as if he wasn’t there? Just because he was a carpet didn’t mean he couldn’t hear. And did they think he had volunteered for this role to begin with or something?! He was not exactly jumping with joy at having tassels for hands!!

“Uh…” Kangin rubbed the back of his neck. He was almost positive that Zhou Mi was giving him the evil eye and it was kind of creeping him out. Probably because he didn’t exactly know where Zhou Mi’s eyes were. “Sorry?”

Zhou Mi looked away indignantly.

“So uh… Siwon,” Shindong began, looking in between Kangin and ‘Zhou Mi’ in confusion. “What do we do in this scene exactly?”

“Er…” Siwon blinked. “I don’t know.”

“Crap. Where are Heechul and Donghae when you need them?”

“Hell, Henry would be great about now too.”

“I wonder what Donghae’s doing?”

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

It was eerily quiet in the dorm. Even at this time of night there would usually be light sounds of rustling sheets, soft snores and one unusually loud humidifier. So for the only sound heard to be the continuous light ticking of the clock on the wall was just not right.

The silhouette of the man on the couch let out a soft sleepy sound as he turned a fraction more onto his side. His brow furrowed a bit as if he was deep in thought. But it was only for a moment before his forehead was smooth again and he was sighing in some unknown dreamland contentment. This man, clearly, was not aware of the trouble his other ‘missing’ dorm mates were in. Or if he was aware, it wasn’t bothering his sleep.

‘Damn it, this is pointless!’ A brash voice suddenly shouted from the television, successfully breaking through the horrendously odd silence in the room. The young man on the couch crinkled his nose at the sudden noise but didn’t awaken. ‘Sitting around, wondering what the other members are doing isn’t going to help us get this stupid scene over with! Now… Does anyone have even the slightest clue what comes next?!’

‘Um…’ Sungmin hesitated. ‘I think I may have remembered just a vague idea of what happens.’ He really hadn’t wanted to be the one to say it though.

The others waited. When he still didn’t speak, Kangin pushed with a less than subtle, ‘And?!’

‘And,’ Sungmin looked at Siwon almost apologetically, ‘you’re not going to like it…’

Siwon sighed, resigned to bad news. What about this whole experience had he liked exactly? This couldn’t be worse than the rest of what he had to do, right? ‘It couldn’t be worse than Zhou Mi forcing me to kiss Heechul, could it?’ He jested.

Sungmin bit his lip. ‘Um…’

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“What do you mean ‘he drowns’?!” Lee Teuk shrieked. Arg; he really couldn’t take any more shocking news like this.

“I mean,” Heechul attempted to explain. “Siwon is going to drown.”

“But I don’t remember Aladdin drowning in the movie,” Eunhyuk suddenly pointed out.

“Well no,” Heechul agreed. “That’s because Aladdin doesn’t drown in the movie.”

“I’m confused,” Hangeng’s voice was heard.

“Look, if there’s one thing I’ve learned while being up… ‘there’, or where ever we are when we’re ‘in’ the film, it is that it is incredibly real and that not everything tends to work out like the film. Siwon could have broken his neck his first scene; I almost had my hand sliced off for crying out loud! And… well… You need to remember that it isn’t going to be ‘Aladdin’ who is tied up, gagged, and thrown into the water; it’s going to be Siwon. And unless he has some super human strength we’re unaware of or he is really part fish I don’t see this ending well!”

“Siwon is…” Lee Teuk began to hyperventilate as Heechul’s words began making sense. “But they can’t-”

“They wouldn’t-”

“He won’t-”

“Are you sure?”

“There has to be a way around this!”

“He can’t die!”

“I refuse to believe this.”

“Something must be done!”

“If you can think of a way around this please let me know… Because I have nothing!” Heechul informed them somewhat panicky. Heechul never sounded panicky; this was not a good sign!

. . .

“He is not going to die!” Lee Teuk declared viciously. “I don’t care if I have to find a way to save his ass myself, I refuse to let him die in a cartoon!!!!”

**…..**…..**…..**

It was worse than when he had to kiss Heechul. “You throw me in the water bound and gagged?!” Way worse.

“Yeah… I think so.”

“Think so?!” Siwon shrieked a bit crazily. Then again, if you were told by some of your best friends that they were going to bound you, gag you, and toss you over a cliff into water, wouldn’t you sound a little crazy too? Yep, he thought so. “If you are telling me you’re going to have to bound and gag me you better be damn sure about it and not just ‘think so’!”

“I told you, you weren’t going to like it!”

“Yeah, well that was an understatement; I hate it!”

“Look,” Kangin, (suddenly the voice of reason?) interrupted. “Why don’t we just do the first bit and see if the scene moves forward before we start panicking? Okay? We’ll just grab Zhou Mi and-“ Kangin looked nervously at the ‘glaring’ carpet. “I didn’t mean grab I meant… um… okay yeah, grab but we’ll grab you gently and not hurt you okay?” He couldn’t tell if the carpet was okay with that or not… “Anyhow… we’ll just do the bit where we grab you both and separate you and see what happens? If the scene continues then we’ll know that Sungmin was right and we can panic from there.”

Siwon thought about it. It actually sounded like a semi-intelligent plan. “Fine,” he grumbled. But he wasn’t exactly thrilled.

His three friends came up on either side of him. Each grabbing a bit of arm or shoulder and hauling him straight up. By ‘hauling’ it was meant more of ‘nudged’, because none of them felt exactly comfortable with manhandling Siwon.

Kangin ‘nudged’ Zhou Mi away, surprisingly gently. Probably partly because he was still uncomfortable with the fact that the man was now a carpet. And partly in the hopes that Kyuhyun would find out that he was gentle and not feel the need to yell at him later.

Once Zhou Mi was out of the way, the three others softly lowered Siwon to the ground so that his face was almost in the dirt. Siwon looked up to glare at them because no matter how softly they attempted to do it, Siwon still fell the last foot or so. He didn’t actually get as far as glaring at them when he saw that Zhou Mi was nowhere to be seen but they had some new ‘arrivals’. His eyes widened in shock. “Holy father in heaven…”

The others followed his gaze. Sungmin gasped. Kangin swore. Shindong seemed incapable of any sound and just stood with his mouth agape.

The good news was that they knew that they were on the right path because the scene had clearly moved forward. The bad news was that now Eunhyuk, looking miserable by the way which was to be expected, was dangling a foot or so off the ground in a tight net… Oh, and he was still an elephant.

The poor guy let out a trumpet of discomfort and the man next to the net jumped. “Eunhyuk,” Sungmin and the man next to the dancer bother shouted. Wait… they knew him.

“Hangeng!” Siwon shouted to bring the man’s attention over to their small little pile.

Hangeng starred wide eyed over at them and started to babble in Chinese.

Shindong finally regained his voice. “Who is the man next to Hangeng?”

That’s when they noticed that there was a fifth guard.

Kangin blinked twice before guessing. “Donghae?”

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“What if-”

“No, that won’t work.”

“How do you know?”

“Because it’s your idea.”

“Hey!”

“Enough! Everyone needs to think seriously about how we can save Siwon!”

“You guys,” a new voice shouted!

“Zhou Mi?”

“Siwon is going to drown!” Zhou Mi continued without pause.

“Yeah, we already know that,” Heechul said. “But thanks. We’re trying to think of a way around that actually.”

“Oh… Okay, good.”

“I’m sorry,” Ryeowook finally spoke. “But I don’t really understand… in the movie, isn’t Aladdin saved? Why can’t he just be saved this time?”

Silence.

“In the movie,” Heechul explained. “Aladdin is thrown off a cliff and sinks to the bottom of the water, he somehow rubs the lamp with his hands tied. At which point the genie arrives and guesses Aladdin wants to be saved. He then turns into a submarine and gets them to safety. But, because this is real… I mean, you’re talking a good fifty foot climb to the water’s surface, at least. And Siwon is going to heavy, not to mention have a ball and chain around his ankles… And I highly doubt Henry will turn into a submarine-”

“I haven’t turned into anything the genie was supposed to turn into,” Henry put in shakily. “Not even the bee, I don’t-” He began to panic as a horrid thought shot through him. “I’m can’t even swim that well! I’m going to be responsible for Siwon’s death… aren’t I?”

Everyone was silent for a beat.

“No,” Lee Teuk finally managed to croak out. “No, you aren’t. Because Siwon won’t die and if he dies… which he won’t, it will not be your fault… None of us could swim fifty feet to the surface with a ball and chain weighting us down, let alone Siwon as well.”

“We’ll just have to think of other options…” Heechul decided.

“What other options?” Henry asked more that a bit hysterically. “Since when has this damn film allowed us to have other options?!”

“Hey!” Kyuhyun shouted. “Aren’t you the one who had us adlibbing the damn dialogue? If you can adlib dialogue maybe there’s a way to adlib the drowning scene?”

“Kyuhyun, you’re a genius!” Heechul decided. “Okay… this might work… maybe. Just… Henry, you can’t panic; and you have to pay very close attention.”

“Right...” Henry agreed shakily.

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“Donghae?” Siwon gave Kangin an odd look.

“Since when does Donghae have a handlebar mustache?” Shindong asked.

“And why would Donghae be frozen?” Sungmin pointed out.

“Plus the man smells horrible; like rotten apples and chewing tobacco,” Hangeng yelled over to them.

“Fine,” Kangin huffed. “I get it; he’s not Donghae; I was wrong!”

“What do we do now?”

“Whatever it is, let’s do it fast… I don’t like Eunhyuk’s being in that tree.”

Eunhyuk made a noise of agreement; anything to get him down faster. The damn rope was digging into his skin in the most uncomfortable ways and he was almost certain that an elephant wasn’t supposed to bend like that.

“What do we do?”

“Bound and gag him…”

Siwon sighed and resigned himself to the inevitable. “Fine, but you are not throwing me off of the cliff!”

Sungmin found a handkerchief in his shirt and began tying it around his mouth as Shindong suddenly seemed to have a ball and chain, complete with weighty shackles magically appear beside him. Convenient.

Speaking of suddenly being back, Zhou Mi was there again as well and Kangin was informed that he needed to tie him around a tree. He refused and instead had Zhou Mi hug the tree. No need to hurt two of his band mates if he could help it.

When they had finished clasping one set of heavy manacles around Siwon’s wrists and another set around his ankles, this set dragging a heavy ball and chain, a tall shadow fell over them. Siwon struggled with the uncomfortable bindings before looking up to see Kyuhyun standing there.

Kyuhyun blinked. “Heechul was right… I was in time.”

Siwon would have asked Kyuhyun just what the fuck he was talking about but the white cloth in his mouth was a bit of an issue. Instead, he just raised an eyebrow but Kyuhyun seemed to get the point.

“Right,” the youngest there began. “So we have a plan that will probably… um… well... maybe save you.”

‘Maybe’ save him? Oh gee, now he was jumping for joy. Had he mentioned that he really hated being Aladdin? Because he really hated being Aladdin!

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“Heechul, what if this doesn’t work?”

“It will work,” Heechul demanded. It had to work. Heechul was not going to have one of his best friends die! Even if Siwon was rather annoying at times, he was still like a brother to Heechul; a very annoying but lovable brother.

“I’m nervous.”

“Just remember to breathe.”

“But I can’t breathe underwater! The genie can breathe underwater, but I won’t be able to! What if the scene starts and I’m taken just after I exhaled?! … I won’t have any air to even attempt to save Siwon; we’ll both die!!!”

“NEITHER OF YOU IS GOING TO DIE, DAMN IT!!!” Lee Teuk shouted.

“Henry,” Ryeowook sobbed. “You’ll be fine… just take deep breathes before you go.”

“And pray,” Kibum suggested. “It couldn’t hurt.”

“Right…” Why did Henry feel like this was still a very bad idea and that it was bound to go wrong? Oh right… because IT WAS!

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“So,” Kyuhyun concluded. “Don’t knock him unconscious,” he informed the ‘guards’. “This way he’ll be able to help Henry get to the surface… hopefully.”

“But he’ll still have the chains on…”

“And I’m much too heavy for Henry to support,” a very pale Siwon said. “Even without the chains.”

“Okay… But that’s why you don’t put the ball and chain on the feet.”

“But the scene won’t continue if we don’t? Will it?”

“Just… pretend to put it on but don’t actually close the clasp. That way the scene will continue at least to the cliff top, and you can unhook the item then before throwing Siwon off the cliff. This at least gets rid of a huge part of the problem. And once he’s in the water the scene will most likely change and go on, regardless of the fact the ball is attached or not.”

“What do you mean ‘most likely’?” Sungmin asked, voicing the question Siwon had been screaming silently in his head.

“We can’t know for sure,” Yesung said from his perch on Kyuhyun’s shoulder.

Well great, Siwon thought. So no one was actually sure whether or not he would live through this yet they wanted to chuck him over a cliff anyhow?!

Hell no!

And again: HELL NO!!

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“I’m back.”

“We’re back.”

“How did it go?”

“They should be at the cliff.”

“Eunhyuk, are you okay?”

“No, I think I’m going to have rope burns for at least a week.”

“Wait, guys, I’m not ready.”

“Henry, you’ll do fine; just breathe.”

“No, I’m not ready.” And why was everyone telling him to freaking breathe?!

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

And he was on the cliff… Great.

Kangin undid the ball and chain from his feet and decided to just put the lamp in his hands for him to rub as soon as he wished. This way, Henry might appear before Siwon reached the bottom and maybe however many feet that gained would be the difference that saved him. Every little bit helped.

Siwon seemed to have trouble holding on to the slippery lamp with his hands in such an odd position but he managed. Sungmin pulled him into an awkward embrace and suddenly wouldn’t stop crying. Come to think of it, all of them were crying. Aish; when had they started crying?

“Let’s not do this,” Sungmin hiccupped, not letting go of the taller man he was holding. “I don’t want you to…” He refused to use the word ‘die’, though they all knew that’s what he was thinking. “Go. . . . Don’t go.”

Siwon tried to smile. He failed. “If I rub the lamp right away, I’ll be fine.” He hoped. If Kyuhyun’s idea even worked. “I’m not going to wait until I hit the bottom like Aladdin does; I’ll rub it straight away. I promise. Henry will probably only have two or three feet to swim to the surface with me… I promise I’ll rub it that fast.”

Sungmin pulled away and sniffled. “Promise?”

“Yeah.” He hoped it worked.

Kangin was there next. “If you don’t come back I’m going to kick your ass. Heaven or no heaven, I’ll find a way.”

Siwon chuckled a bit before letting his hyung hug him tightly.

Shindong didn’t say anything. Simply hugged him, and let his tears speak for him.

Siwon sighed and sniffled himself as he inched his way onto the cliff’s edge. He looked over slowly and gulped. It was a long way down. He gripped the lamp tighter and closed his eyes.

“Siwon,” Sungmin said before he would have jumped. “Come back to us.”

There was something more in the words then what was on the surface. Maybe Siwon was imagining it, but it made him smile anyhow. A real smile, not one to make the others feel better. “I promise.”

And with that, he turned back around, took a deep breath, and stepped off the cliff.

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

“Alright he jumped.”

Everyone stopped speaking when Kangin’s voice interrupted their dialogue.

Someone sniffled.

“Is Henry still here?” Henry should be gone right?

“I’m still here.”

“Why hasn’t he rubbed the lamp yet?” Sungmin choked out.

“Henry are you ready?”

“No… But I guess I don’t really have much time do I? I mean I’ll-”

. . .

“Henry?”

“Henry?!”

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

Siwon hit the water harder than he thought he would and it hurt. The second his feet touched, tt was like icicles shoved into the soles of his feet. When the rest of his body followed he almost forgot what he was supposed to be doing. How come he hadn’t braced himself for the cold? He was in the desert, it shouldn’t be this cold! Should it? Okay, so maybe it was pitch black outside and with no sun it had been a little chilly out, but the water shouldn’t have been this cold!

He remembered the lamp almost right away but it wasn’t soon enough. He rubbed awkwardly at the slick piece of gold hoping Henry would arrive soon, but with every second the chains pulled him down deeper. He hadn’t realized he would sink so quickly; even without the iron ball around his ankles. He hadn’t realized a lot of things.

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

It was eerie enough in the darkness without the intense silence. With it, it was almost suffocating. Even Yesung was quiet.

Though it did give one time to think, not that anyone thought of much other than what was happening where they couldn’t see. Some prayed; some were listening intensely for any sound; anything at all to indicate Henry’s and Siwon’s return.

Kibum was the first to break the silence as it finally dawned on him. “Holy crap… I just realized something…”

**…..**…..**…..**…..**

Henry almost inhaled before he realized that he was suddenly immerged in water. Crap! Where was Siwon? Henry turned around in a panic to see Siwon, starring up at him with wide eyes.

Wait. Starring up at him?!

Shit!!!

Henry flipped upside down and swam the eight or so feet to Siwon and then tried to kick them both up to the surface. Something was wrong. Why were they still moving downward?!

Henry knew he looked just about as panicked as Siwon did right then as he struggled to at least keep them from moving down. He looked up and saw the faint shimmering of the water’s surface not fifteen feet ahead. The only problem was he wasn’t exactly moving up at all and he was quickly running out of breath. He knew Siwon was worse off than him and tried to kick harder, faster, anything.

He couldn’t tell if they were making any progress but Siwon had started to kick his bound legs like a mermaid. Was that even doing anything? Henry was having a hard time concentrating he just knew that he couldn’t stop kicking and pulling. They had to survive. Because damn it, he would not die like this!!

His legs started to ache but he was sure when he looked up next that the surface was closer. Maybe it was working? Maybe he was just being delusional.

His lungs started to burn. He needed to breathe. He looked up again. They were so close!

Just.

A.

Little.

Bit.

Further.

And…

YES!

Henry took in a shuddering gulp of cold air as his face broke the surface. His lungs starved for oxygen. He had time to take one quick look around and see which direction the shore was before they started to sink again.

WHAT?

Henry looked down at Siwon and took another breath before his head was re-submerged. Siwon’s eyes were no longer open. And they were still sinking.

No.

No!

No.No.No.No.No!!!!

To be continued…
