Lost Soul-The Break Out

Aug 10, 2004 22:31

In a jail cell sits a man that goes by the name of Adam Vega. He has sat in the same cell for 5 years. Words start spreading about a break-out. As all the convicts get excited Adam just sits in his cell and thinks. He thinks about the fateful day that slammed him in this hell. An innocent man on trial with no solid evidence. He was only locked away becuase of his record, mass murder isn't his style. The moon rises and the lights go out in the jail. A loud BOOM goes off and the doors to the cells swing wide open. All the convicts rush out hooting like dumb, wild animals.
Adam stood in his cell contemplating leaving. He spent everyday of five years thinking about the people he had left behind, the man that set him up and the life he left. Then again if he runs and they catch him, then his sentence will be prolonged.
Slowly he walks deeper into his cell, waiting it out the right way is the safest way. Better safe than sorry...but the thoughts of vengence are too strong to ingore and words of a friend start to play in his head "Big risks give great rewards, but not to risk is to give up everything."
Adam charged out of his cell looking for the sweet embrace of mother freedom. The others were all running out the front door, they apprently hadn't given it much thought. Adam ran towards the back of the jail. There waiting for him was Old Joe. Old Joe had been in jail for 20 years and had been planning this moment for 19.
Adam said to Old Joe "Thanks again for letting leave with you. I don't know what I would have done."
Old Joe just smiled"Nah, Vega, thank you. I couldn't have dug this tunnel without your help," then Old Joe's face grew grim "if I don't make it, I want you to see to this address and tell the people there that I love them."
"Family," Adam asked.
"Something like that," Old Joe said with a returning smile.
Adam reared back and shot forward with a hard kick to the brik wall. The wall fell to pieces to reveal a passage. The two began to crawl on their hands and knees for 3 long miles until a cold wet drop tuched Adam's nose. Adam turned to Old Joe "Hey Joe this thing is cavin' in!"
"Well then hurry the hell up!," Old Joe shot back.
But as the two scurried on, more and more water started to pour in, and before they knew it they were up to thier chins in ocean.
Old Joe stopped "It's not safe, we need to go back!"
"We are so close. C'mon you can do it, just push," screamed Adam.
the ground started becoming more like mudd and the ceiling got closer as the water went higher.
Finally a beam of light broke out of whole above them. Just a little more, thought Adam.
Just then the tunnel completely gave out and the two were crushed in a current of water. Adam struggled but he couldn't reach the hole. Adam could feel Old Joe pushing him towards the light.
Adam grabbed the light and pulled himself as hard as he could into its welcoming aura. Then all was black.
Adam woke-up and looked around. Old Joe was nowhere in sight. He turned back to the whole where he had cralwed through just moments ago, now a pool. He thought he saw Old JOe and took a hold of his shirt, he slowly managed to drag Old Joe's body up through the hole.
Old Joe felt cold and clamy. Adam checked for a pulse....None. He checked for breath....None.
Adam sat there with Old Joe's dead, drowned body in his arms. "Sweet dreams old man," Adam said "rest in peace."
Adam laid the body down and stood up. Looking around he saw that he was in an alley, and all alone. His silence was broken by the sound of sirens. He wouldn't let Old Joes death and all his work be for nothing. He saw a cop car drive by and imedialty jumped the alley fence. He took off running, thinking to himself of all the things he had to....and the bastard that put him away for 5 years. Vengence is sweet to those who wait, and for Adam Vega, it was gonna be sinful.
