“Oppa! You’re so funny!”
Kibum’s bright cat-like eyes fell upon the sight of Sunny clinging on to his hyung, laughing her lungs out.
Why are you doing this to me, hyung? Is everything that we are onstage, just a lie?
Kibum ran fingers through his own hair. Sure, he had heard many stories about Jinki hyung. Many times, about him with Jessica, or Sunny, or any of the SNSD noonas for that matter. He had even heard rumours of Jinki hyung being paired with other members of the group, but all along, the rapper had always chosen to ignore all that.
All those words about you and other people, I’ve always tried to ignore it and pretended I didn’t hear that.
“Guys, PD noona says it’s almost time for us to prepare to go on stage!”
Minho’s call broke into Kibum’s thoughts as he stood up from where he was sitting, away from everyone else. He closed the notebook he was scribbling lyrics in and stuffed it hastily into his duffel bag, before walking over to join the other members.
Jinki was ruffling Taemin’s hair when Kibum approached, and giving the maknae his usual eye smile. “Stop it,” Kibum snapped, “There are reporters around and you don’t want rumours flying around do you?”
Jinki stopped abruptly as Jonghyun pulled Taemin away, mumbling something about Kibum being in his diva mood again.
The way you smile at my friend, stop it. Change it. I’ve already told you so many times.
“Kibummie, I’m sorry. I’ll stop doing it alright?”
Jinki was giving him his puppy dog eyes look again, along with that pleading smile. It was tearing Kibum’s heart apart, knowing that his apology and his promises to change would only last for that moment.
My heart’s in pain, it hurts, but I can’t help repeating myself.
Kibum forced a smile and nodded, as Jinki ripped out the sharp blade piercing through his heart once again. Jinki grinned in relief and said sweetly, “You look great today, and you’ll look even better if you smile.”
Kibum smiled genuinely this time. He loved compliments, especially when they came from Jinki.
“Ah! Taeyeon noona, that dress suits you really well!”
Kibum turned away as Jinki walked towards Taeyeon to compliment her sense of style.
I was wrong wrong wrong. Your words were so sweet, that I didn’t realize you were playing me with your words every day.
The rapper swallowed hard as the headless microphone was being attached to him. He felt a warm hand grip on to his and he glanced up to see Jinki tugging his hand gently before pulling him on to stage, where fans would scream when they felt that the appa and umma of SHINee were for real. He wished they were for real, but he knew better than to hope for that, and further tears his heart apart.
Baby, you’re breaking my heart. Baby you’re hurting my heart.
The younger wanted to pull away, wanted to tell Jinki there was no point in providing fan service, and that they should just stop. But instead, he gripped on tighter to Jinki’s hand and allowed him to lead him on stage.
I want to stop this, I know this is wrong… but I keep going back to you.
The fans were screaming, and Kibum smiled sadly as he knew why. They were screaming because they thought ONKEY was real, when this was all a show they were putting up. The elder lets go of Kibum’s hand and turns to give him a wink and a smile, earning louder screams from the fans. Kibum forces a smile back, before he turns away.
Baby you and I, like a bad popular song. I’m crying inside, but I force a smile like a clown.
“And that was a great performance, you guys!”
Kibum watched as the leader gave a bright smile, causing his eyes to disappear again. The pretty boy felt his heart skip a beat at the beautiful sight. His affection approached him, giving him a pat on the back, “Kibum, great job out there. Your rapping has improved a lot.”
Kibum felt his heart strings tug, as he ignored the fact that this was the same person who always made him cry. He smiled slight, before walking off to speak to the manager.
My heart and body go astray, because I am such a fool with no pride. Although I was deceived by love, I wipe my tears and just go back to you, knowing that this is wrong.
His eyes followed Jinki’s every movement, as he spoke to Jonghyun, and touched Jonghyun’s shoulder lightly. It was enough. The heart break was enough, and Kibum couldn’t stand it anymore as the leader’s eyes fell on his teary ones. Yet, he held back his tears, faked a smile, before he turned and ran.
The fact that I’m a toy that you played with and threw away makes my feeling unbearable. But why? Today, I am a clown who smiles in front of you again.
“YAH, KIM KIBUM!”
Kibum was jerked to a stop as he was spun around to face Jonghyun. Tears were streaming down his face, and he didn’t care how pathetic he looked to everyone else, as long as Jinki remembered his smiling face all the time, because that was the him that the leader loved most. “Let go.”
Jonghyun shook his head and gripped on tighter to Kibum’s wrist saying, “Stop acting like that. You’re making Jinki hyung worry about you. He knows that you’re upset, but he doesn’t understand why.”
Kibum felt anger rise in him as he yelled, “Why? It’s because of him!”
A look of sympathy washed over the lead singer’s boyish face; he was always aware that Kibum was deeply in love with their clumsy leader. Kibum softened his voice, “The words that he uses on everyone are always so… similar. I can’t tell what is real and what isn’t anymore, Jonghyun hyung.”
Jonghyun gripped on to Kibum’s shoulders, causing Kibum to wince slightly at the iron grip. “Kibum, do you know what he tells me? He tells me that he wished things between you and him could be more than just what it seems like on stage.”
The said leader came running, slightly breathless and his hair tousled. “Kibum, are you alright? You’ve been -“
Kibum ran and embraced his leader tightly, causing the elder to freeze slightly, before returning the tight embrace.
I’m sorry, hyung. I was wrong. I didn’t realize that those sweet words were just for me, and that you weren’t playing me at all.
“Kibum, don’t be so upset. It breaks my heart, you know?”
Kibum smiled up at the elder through his tears. Of course he knew, or at least he did now.
