So, after annoying anyone I could think of to ask, I finally heard the song again at work, and wrote down as many snippets of lyrics I could. Finally realized why it was always so difficult to remember specific lyrics.

But! I finally found the song/music video/performer

Now I understood why it made such an impression on my soft 11-12 year old brain.
