Mommy, the great bear hunter

My mum, is nutz

Linda just got into it with a big black bear! Her and the bear have been "Bumping" into each other for the past week. Tonight she is on call, so she was up late. She heard the little billy goat bleating for help and went to investigate ( IT was pitch black out at midnight). the bear was at the goat pen and had the little goat beat up pretty bad. I woke up Jeff and he came out with the .357. The bear wasn't afraid of the gun and I didn't have good hollow points in the gun so I ran back to get the 7mm,after we fired warning shots to scare it up the hill. I was reloading the .357 when I ran smack into the bear who had circled around Jeff and Linda! I fired four more shots at the bear while Jeff and Linda tried to get the goat out of the pen and to safety. The bear was not to afraid of me which is not a good thing! We had to finish off the goat with the 7mm, which upset Linda. who was now plotting ways to kill the bear. This bear has been down every night trying to kill something. When I fired to scare him away he got up on his hind legs and challenged me with the gun firing.
I'm sure he is outside near the other goat pen waiting for us to go to bed.
We brought Max up from the creek and he is tied outside My bedroom door facing the other goat pen. I gave Jeff orders to shoot to kill on the bear now. The bear is obviously out for fresh meat no matter what kind. I called the game warden to tell him to get out here or he is going to have a dead bear! All I got was his recording and left a message.
IF Max barks I will bring him in the house and shoot the bear dead. This is a big black and he is not discouraged by a .357 at close range around with him. I have the 30.06 loaded and a clip in the 7mm. With two of us shooting we should be able to kill the damned thing. We have dumb ass neighbors not far from the cabins in campers for the 4th. so wounding the bear is not an option. These bears can be a real pain in the ass!

Max kept the bear at bay all night, barking on and off outside my sliding glass door. The game warden called me first thing and asked if he had a dead bear to remove or a live one to shoot. I told him so far it was alive but I wouldn't guarentee it would stay that way.
The game warden agreed that since the bear wasn't afraid of people and he was hunting for fresh meat, it needed to be "put down". We are waiting for the "trap" they use to catch it , then it will be shot.
We found where the bear had climbed over the 6 foot high goat pen and attacked the goat . Linda "charged" the bear with her squad car, thus frightening it and causing it to exit the pen with the goat mortally wounded. Once Jeff and I got to the pen the bear was only a few feet away and was refusing to leave it's "prey". Jeff fired first with the .357 and the bear stood up in protest but did not back down. Linda was yelling and the goat was still bleating. The bear then turned and walked into the darkness. Our flashlights are the cheap kind and we couldn't see worth a shit. I took the .357 inside to reload and grabbed the 7mm on the way out of the cabin I ran into the bear circling Jeff and Linda! I fired almost point blank at him and the bear was in no hurry to leave. I didn't want to wound the bear with the back full of camper with kids and no way to track him in the dark. I laid the .357 down and focused on the 7mm. if the bear came back ( not that he was ever more than 100 yards away) I would have had to shoot to kill. Jeff had the goat in his arms with it's interals hanging out, and Linda was saying "Kill the bastard"! I told her a big bear like that might not be so easy to kill in the dark!
the neighbor lady heard the shots and turned on her lights. I sent Jeff to tell her it was "just a bear go back to sleep". I'm sure that put her at ease since her dog had just died and she just told me the night before how scared she was to be alone up there.
Anyway, the bear has a set pattern. He has been comming down at 11p.m. and leaving at 3:30 a.m. on and off for a couple of months now. HE is well over 6feet tall and since I've seen no cubs, must be a male. I'm relatively sure, if I stake out the dead goat I will get my bear tonight. I sent Linda into town for a decent flash light and some decent shells. I'm going to use the 30-06 and 7mm. and use the .357 for back up with the hollow points IF the game warden doesn't get the bear first. That's my plan. I'll keep you informed as to how it turns out.
