So--hiatus update! The time has come to progress from semi-hiatus-with-frequent-appearances to a more-full-hiatus-with-dramatically-increased-scarcity-because-exams-are-happening. However, if the past has taught me anything it's that I, um... tend to ignore the fact I'm on hiatus and supposed to be doing other things. And so I show up to RP anyway ( Read more... )

... yes ma'am.

All in all? I'm enjoying the ride so far and wish it'd get picked up as an on-going, because--surprise surprise--I really like the characters and their respective perspectives and the way they're handled. CB Cebulski (and I know this because I met him and he gave me a free comic he wrote about a lesbian vampire ninja!) is no BKV, but I think he gets most of the characters really well. Granted, I've paid the most attention to Ricochet, but even just going by him--Cebulski gets him. The little touches about him being a film nerd, of his guilt and feelings of inadequacy and his acting out to cover those up... That feels right to me, both as a reader and someone who plays the character and tried to get into his head.

I love how he handled Rico's backstory, by actually incorporating what happened and not just retconning things out right and left--the little hints about his ex-teammates and such. I like how the story's progressed, giving semi-equal time to all the characters while still moving along pretty decently. I'm really intrigued by where they might have taken things if it got picked up for an on-going, and I'm both anticipating and dreading how they might have to wrap things up in one final issue.

The art's grown on me--the last two issues in particular seemed really strong to me--the first couple were alright, but the inker went a little heavy. Now they're using a lighter touch and I think the art's stronger for it. The interiors are nice, and while I like the cover concepts, I hate their execution--Ricochet is not a goddamn panda bear, as issue #2's cover would have you believe.

Really? I'm gonna miss it. There was tons of potential to revive these characters and do something with them, and the creative team were making headway in that direction. Ricochet and Darkhawk have always been favorites of mine, and it was nice to see them get some play, however briefly.

Any chance you'll "holla back," as the colloquialism goes, with your thoughts on it?
