I don't write that much anymore, but this is something that came to me while watching the Montreal/Carolina game tonight. It's kinda dumb, and probably inaccurate as hell, but I tried. A little. It's short. Just go with it. It's a thing.

"Better"
A ficlet by Alyssa D'Angelo
*I do not own the Tampa Bay Lightning, The Carolina Hurricanes, the NHL or anything else. All is fiction.

"GODAMMIT CORY!" he clenched his fists. "YOU TWO-TIMING, NO GOOD, SON-OF-A-BITCH!"

"Brad -"

"YOU FUCKING SON OF A..." his eyes welled up with tears, but he fought them back. "HE LEFT US, VINNY! HE FUCKING PACKED UP HIS SHIT AND WALKED OUT THE DOOR!"

"You know just as well as we all do that he had no choice!"

"LOOK AT HIM! Look at him with that fucking smirk on his face! Thinks he's hot shit there in Carolina! YEAH, FUCK YOU STILLS, FUCKING-"

"BRAD, IT WAS THE FUCKING LOCKOUT - THE SALARIES! AND YOU KNOW IT!" he took two steps toward the other man, where they stood. He folded his arms across his chest. His teammate avoided eye contact.

"Fuck the lockout," he said, looking down. "And fuck the salaries. They took Khabby, they took Cory, and next year they'll probably take you too."

"Or you."

"Or Marty." His voice quavered, and unwillingly let a tear slide down his cheek.

"Brad, think of how he feels. Ain't like it's the first time its happened - fuck, they pulled him outta St. Louis after a few years and shoved him here..."

"Fuck you! That was different - he wanted to come then, he wanted to fuckin' be here!"

"YOU wanted him to fuckin' be here!"

He turned his head back to the screen, letting another tear fall, defeatedly, followed by another and another before he couldn't stop it anymore. Before he realized it, he was collapsing onto the taller man's chest, allowing himself to be pulled into an embrace.

"...he looked so much better in black."
