Pairing: Ryan MillerxZdeno Chara

Chapter 1

The whole next day, I just sat at my home before practice, my mind wandering back to that kiss. Brushing my fingers against my lips, they still tingled from what happened the night before. Letting out a strangled sigh, I grabbed a pillow off from the couch and held it close to my chest. ‘What am I going to do?’ I thought to myself, knees pressed against the pillow, while my arms wrapped around my knees.

But my thoughts were interrupted as I heard a knock, looking up I quickly made my way to the door. Opening it to see Derek standing there, I groaned on the inside as he gave me a smile. “Ryan, are you even packed to go?” He asked, noting that I was still wearing a pair of sweats, and a plain white t-shirt. A confused look spread across my face, before I realized what he meant. “Shit.” I muttered under my breath as I turned to grab my stuff, and take a quick shower.

‘Why did no one remind me?’ I asked myself as I finished my shower, and got dressed in a pair of dress pants and a nice shirt. Since they did have to go through the airport. “Thanks a lot for reminding me Derek.” I hissed at him as he helped me grab my stuff. Hearing a slight chuckle from him, I shook my head. “Well it looked like you were a bit busy last night.” He said a smile crept across his face.

I stopped, my whole body stiffened as I heard what he said. Exactly what did he know? And it made my fear just become worse, all I could think was , ‘What if he saw me and Zdeno.’ Shaking my head I shrugged it off. “Whatever you say Der.” I managed to say in a calm voice, hoping that he believed that I did not know what he was talking about at all.

Hearing him laugh a bit, I made a face and did not look at him. “Come on, lets get moving before Lindy has a fit.” Derek said, now grabbing my arm and pulling me, and my bags out towards his car. “I can drive, you don’t need to drive me there.” I snapped as he opened the door and pushed me in the car. For someone who was 5’9”, Derek could really push someone around.

Sighing, I finally gave up, only due to I was really tired from staying up all night wondering why Zdeno had kissed me. And from drinking way too much coffee at the end of the game.

-------------------------------

The trip there was not all that bad, it was just sitting there now at the hotel. Having nothing to do at all, well I had nothing to do. Everyone else seemed to think it was a good idea to go for a walk while we waited for the time that was assigned to us for practice. Maybe I should of went with them, but I could not take the chance into running into Zdeno.

Letting out a groan I hit my head against the wall, flinching slightly I brought my hand to the back of my head. “Great. Just great.” I muttered getting up, this was boring. I needed to get moving, and find someplace quite, besides the hotel to think. Grabbing my coat, I quickly got my shoes on, made sure I had my room key, and walked out of the room. ‘Lets just hope I won’t run into anyone.’ I thought taking in a deep breath, as I headed down the stairs, and towards the front door.

The cool night air felt good against what skin was exposed to the air, which was not much, just my face and ears. Which the cold air made my ears a slight pink now, and a bit numb as well, but I did not care at all. Hands stuffed in my pockets, one gripped around a cell phone, while the other was balled into a fist. My eyes stared down at my feet as I walked, not wanting to look at anyone or anything. Taking in deep breaths I could not help but let out a low sigh.

The images and what happen last night came back to my mind as fresh as ever. My lips tingled once more, like they had this morning, just thinking of this kiss made them tingle. It just was not right, I mean how could one guy, one guy that I did not know. Make me feel as if I was a giddy school girl.

Shaking my head, I turned down an empty street, or so I thought it was empty. Well so far it was, but I could hear talking up ahead and I took no heed to the voices. But I should have, I should have taken notice of at least one voice up ahead. Because that one voice belonged to the guy I was trying to avoid right now. Not because I did not like him, it was just…… Argh how do I explain it?

But that was the last thing I managed to think straight, before I felt someone bump into me. Letting out a startled yelp, I landed on my ass, much like I did the night before. ‘Ow……’ was the only thing I thought of right now. Now it was sore, and it be a pain to do some of the moves I do on the ice. “It seems we always run into each other.” I heard a voice say, and I stiffen. ‘Oh no….’ I thought.

A hand came into my field of view, one that I knew would make mine look so small. Shaking my head, I lifted myself off the ground. I could hear laughter from just behind Zdeno….. ‘Wait! Oh god….’ I thought looking up quickly, before averting my gaze. “I don’t need you help.” I managed to say, but I could not look him in the eyes. Those hazel like eyes, I knew if I looked at them, I would stare.

“We’ll catch you later Zee.” I heard a new voice say, but I chose to ignore it, as I turned to walk away. But once more, just like last night I was stopped. “Wait, are you sure your ok?” Zdeno asked, a look of pure concern crossed his face this time. The only reason why I saw it, was because I wanted to give him a look that said, ‘leave me alone.’ But seeing that look on his face, I could not do, I could not bring myself to scowl at him.

Taking in a deep breath, I really wanted to say no, my ass was killing me. But I could not tell him, the enemy know that I was weak right now. “I’m fine….” I started before seeing the look in his eyes. A look saying that he knew I was lying, ‘Shit how did he know?’ I thought to myself, but I then remembered. Derek always told me that I seemed to fidget when I was lying and almost everyone knew about it.

Trying to at least get out of his grasp, I looked around hoping that someone would be around. Only because I did not know what was going to happen right now. “Your lying to me, Ryan.” He said, his voice holding a bit of an edge to it. Which made me flinch back at the sound of it. I had hardly ever heard him with any type of edge to his voice, but he acted like I just did something major. Hell I only lied to him that’s all.

“Zd……” I started, before a finger was placed over my lips, silencing me before I could say anything else. “Please, call me Zee.” Zdeno finally said after a couple of seconds, which seemed to have helped him calm down slightly. “And please, Ryan don’t lie to me.” He then said, the look in his eyes pleading with me. This made me bite my lower lip, and turn my head away. ‘Fuck….’ was all I could think. ‘Please don’t look at me like that…’ I thought, wanting to say it out loud, but I could not bring myself to it.

There was something else in those eyes, something that I have seen in other eyes before. But I could not bring myself to admit to what I was seeing, I just wanted to shrug it off and go back to my hidden affections. Things were better like that, or at least I hope they were. As I was thinking this, a felt a light shake come to my shoulders. “Ryan? Are you even listening?” Zdeno asked, hunched slightly so his face was closer to mine.

Looking up at him, I sighed, “Zee, please can I just go? I’m fine, just a bit sore that’s all.” I said, well it sounded more like a plead then what I wanted it to. I then turned to walk away, but was stopped short as I felt an arm wrap around my chest, and bring my back up against his chest. Letting out a short gasp, my eyes closed and my head rested against his chest, the top of my head just barely reaching above his shoulder.

Even through my jacket, I could feel almost every line on Zdeno’s chest. Instinctively my left hand reached up and gripped his arm. ’God damn him and his long arms.’ I thought, but I could not say it. “You don’t know how long its taken me, to just get to the point where I could bring myself to talk to you.” I heard Zdeno say, this caused shiver to run down my spine. Which caused me to press back into him, more on instinct then on what was rational right now.

Finally realizing just how close we were, my eyes snapped open and I went to pull away. As I did this, his arm tightened around my chest, holding me closer than before. “Where do you think your going?” He asked, his lips against my ear now. The shiver that ran down my spine, I really did not mean for it to happen. But the closeness of his voice made my face flush, and always sent shivers down my spine.

As I tried to find my words again, my left hand still clutching around his arm. Or what I could get my hand around. “I… I need t…o get back…..” I started my voice going strong for a bit, before fading again. Licking my lips a few times, I tried to say something more, but nothing would come out. “Go back to where?” Zdeno asked, his other arm now wrapping around my waist. Pulling me even closer that way.

My eyes closed as I tried to process what was going on right now. But nothing came to my mind, every time I tried to think of something, it would slip my mind. “Cat got your tongue?” He asked, I could hear the smile in his voice. Zdeno was enjoying making me feel like this, and there was nothing I could do to stop him.

But my train of thought was stopped once more, not by how he was holding me. It was the way he said his words, with so much affection that it threw me for a loop. Yeah I admit I have heard former affections of mine talk with some affection. But I had never heard anyone talk to me with this much affection before. I turned my head slightly so that I could look at him, well look up at him.

Flashing another smile, he brought me closer as I tried to wiggle free. A low chuckle escaped Zdeno’s lips, watching as I struggled against his arms once more. “Can I please go? I really need to get back before they send a search party.” I managed to say even though it was in a weak voice. But what got me, was that Zdeno did not look like he cared at all if they sent one out or not.

“Promise me then you’ll take care of yourself.” Zdeno then said, bring me closer, but his arm around my chest loosened. Letting out a low sigh, I could not help but feel relieved that he was finally letting me leave.

But I was wrong, dead wrong. We were close to the park, that’s all I knew. While I was lost in my train of thought, I had not notice he turned me around and wrapped an arm around the small of my back.

Hunching down slightly, his other arm that was free wrapped down between my ass and knees. Before I could say anything, he lifted me up, his arm now holding my ass as he leaned against a tree. How we got near a tree was beyond me right now. What got to me was that, as I looked down to look at him. Zdeno was looking up at me, that same smile on his face. The smile that he kept giving me all last night whenever I would look at him.

My right hand gripped his shoulder tightly as I looked down to the side, while the other gripped his other shoulder. Eye’s going wide, I shut them quickly and tucked my head into my chest. “Don’t tell me your afraid of heights.” He said with a slight laugh, making me open my eyes to glare at him, well it was more of a quick cloud of anger before it disappeared. Looking to the side once more I grabbed his shoulders tighter. Closing my eyes once more, not caring anymore about his arm supporting my ass.

Taking in slow deep breaths, I tried to calm myself. But it was not working all that well, maybe if my feet were touching something solid I would be fine. I started to shift uneasily the longer I was up there. “Ryan, you don’t have to worry about falling. I would never let that happen.” Zdeno said, his voice muffled slightly by my jacket as his head rested against my chest.

Drawing in a quick sharp breath, I looked around for some way down now. ‘Maybe if I…’ I stated to myself, shifting once more in his grasp. My ass slowly sliding off from its resting place. ‘Got it!’ I then thought, a smile crossing my face. But as I started to slid down, Zdeno quickly pressed me closer. My face now level with his, a smile crossed those lips before they pressed to mine. As he kissed me, my arms, without my knowledge wrapped around his neck as he stopped me inches away from touching the ground.

His tongue flicking across my lips once, causing them to open just enough for his tongue to invade my mouth. Letting out a low moan, that once it reached my ears my body froze. ‘What am I doing?’ I asked myself quickly, my hands now pushing against his chest. Which some how it worked and I was now out of his grasp, and standing, well more like stumbling on the ground.

Quickly looking at him, he gave me another smile. “Y-yo…” I started trying to give him a glare, but once more it failed. But Zdeno took a step towards me, and lifted my chin with his hand. A soft kiss was then placed on my lips then forehead before he let go. “Take care, and be careful out there tonight.” He then said, his left hand resting on the side of my face. Patting my cheek once, he turned to walk away. But instead of me standing there and watching him walk away. I turned quickly and left, moving at a pace that was almost a run.

When I could not see him anymore, I slowed my pace and stopped. “Why does this always happen to me?” I asked myself. “What are you talking about Mills?” I then heard a voice from my left. Groaning I shook my head and let myself sit on the bare and empty sidewalk. “What do you want Derek? And why can’t you just leave me alone?” I asked looking up at him, trying to keep my emotions in check.

“Well maybe if someone was in their room like they told us he would be. Then I would not be out here looking for you.” Derek said, setting himself down next to me. Letting out a huff of air I looked out towards the street, my eyes not really looking at the street itself. ‘What am I going to do?’ I thought to myself before Dereks hand rested on my shoulder. “Come on, lets get back to the hotel.” Derek said, standing up once more holding out his hand to help me up. Sighing I took the hand and watched him walk away, looking over my shoulder once. I then turned to follow.

-Just got to add something of Zee’s here xD THIS PART IN 3RD PERSON-

Zdeno had casted a look over his shoulder, hoping to catch one last glimpse of the goalies back. But Ryan was already gone, shaking his head, Zdeno walked on. A smile was still placed on his lips, but he could not help it. It had taken him this long to get the courage to even speak to Ryan. And there seemed to be good progress going on right now.

“Someone’s getting very forward with his emotions.” A voice said to the right of Zdeno, a hint of laughter in that voice. “Aww shut it Timmy.” Zdeno said quickly, looking over at his teammate. He was the only one that knew about Zdeno’s liking for the Buffalo Goaltender. A laugh came from the Bruin’s goaltender, which caused the smile to get a bit wider on Zdeno’s face. But it did not last long, a deep sigh escaped him. “It just seems like I’m swimming upstream with him and doing no where.” Zdeno finally said after a minute.

“Give him time, I’m sure he’ll come around.” Tim said, placing a hand on Zdeno’s shoulder. “Ryan’s just had a tough love life from what I heard.” Nodding his head, Zdeno hoped that was the only thing holding Ryan back.
