Challenge #12

“It’s freezing.” Ryan said, teeth chattering.

“Well yeah, we are in Buffalo.” Brian said in a sarcastic tone. He was squatting, his toe of his shoes were almost being touched by the waves. Ryan stood behind him. His hands were shoved in his pockets. There was a little tension between them because despite the win the night before, Brian wasn’t 100% sure that the team was back to it’s old self. Ryan knew that he was being self conscious.

“Why are we here?” Ryan moaned. Brian didn’t answer him. He just looked out, across Lake Erie. He sighed and stood up. “It’s cold.” Ryan said quietly.

Brian stood in front of him. He put his hands in Ryan’s pockets. He wrapped his fingers around Ryan’s.

“Why are we here?” Ryan asked again, quieter. His lips were pale, and his ears were pink. Brian kissed him lightly.

“Because it’s only you and me.” Ryan looked at him, before resting his head on Brian’s shoulder. He rubbed Brain’s palm with his thumb.

“Okay.” He sighed. “We can stay.”

Title: Fall

Pairing: Brian Campbell and Ryan Miller

Word Count: 103

Rating: G

Summary: Brian feels self-conscious, but Ryan is there. Taken place after one of the Sabres’ lose this year, take your pick which.

AN: my fics are always inspired by country songs, go figure. This one is Fall by Clay Walker.

Brain is in my bed. He’s in my arms and he is crying. He’s scared, or at least he keeps saying he is. He’s scared of letting everyone down. Scared of telling me down. While he talks I listen, and wipe his tears. I tell him ‘I’m right here.’

His breathing slows down. He’s sweating. He nods and kisses my hand, like he always does. He tells me he’s never been this close to anyone, or anything.

And even though Brian is happy, loud, and crazy all the time, I live for these moments. Because they are our moments and they are real.
