(Kim Kibum’s POV)
“Taemin, if you don’t get over here, I won’t talk to you for a week!” This is just the way that Key, or I, was; especially to my best friend.
“B-But!” Taemin stuttered. Almost against his will he quickly and quietly darted to my side. There was nothing that I could say that Taemin wouldn’t do.
“Instead of dress up today… could we go and play house?” Taemin asked quietly, and for once I nodded and followed. Before we ran up the stairs we heard Taemin’s mother call out to us.
“Minnie! Mommy will be back soon, and Kibum, don’t redecorate the house like last time.”
“Okay, but I can’t make any promise about your living room, it just spells Extreme Makeover.” Mrs. Lee gave me a wavering look but quickly gave Taemin a kiss on the cheek and then she was out the door.
Anyways, that’s when the letters first started coming, or so I think. I forget now since it was so long ago.
6 years later…
“Minnie honey, look what I got in the mail, it’s a letter for you from...” She paused in her sentence and placed a thoughtful finger to her cherry lips as she reread everything on the front of the envelope she held in her hands.
The letter was laced in scarlet ribbon with red ink printed on the face of the envelope. Mrs. Lee slowly turned to Taemin and said very sweetly, “Ah. It’s nothing, just those damn people from the insurance company.”
“Are you sure mom? It has my name on it right?” Taemin whispered and glanced over at me with confusion in his eyes. In return, I gave him a small shrug.
His mother opened the letter with careful hands, swiftly gliding her finger under the sealed flap of the white envelope. She unfolded the red paper inside and skimmed over the words.
“What’s it say?” Taemin spoke almost inaudibly as he walked closer to his mother’s side, standing next to her from over her shoulder as he tried to read the letter himself.
She quickly tore the piece of paper away from his view. “Oh. It’s nothing dear,” his mother said smiling as she crumpled up the letter. Tossing it into the closest garbage can, she pushed her bright red hair behind her ear and fixed her feathery hat. Then, leaning over to where her eyes were leveled with Taemin’s, she gave him a kiss on the forehead. With no more to say, she hurried away.
“Uh, Kibummie,” Kibummie was my nickname given to me by Taemin, “Want to go play dress up?”
“Sure but make me some dinner, will you?”I almost commanded with an evil glare to Taemin, who, in turn, clicked his tongue and shook his head.
“Why do I have to be your chef?” he questioned.
“Why do you always have to whine about it? Besides you’re the only one who can cook in this damn house.” I shot back to my friend’s pathetic comment with a half hearted smirk, crossing my arms as he stood in the middle of his hallway half naked.
Me being half naked had nothing to do with Taemin. It wasn’t like he was looking. We had already come to a conclusion that Taemin and I were… on the other side of the door. Basically, we are gay. But we’re not about to go and blab it to the world. Well, I might.
I had asked Taemin to find him a dress so I could play dress up, which also meant that Taemin would be wearing a dress too. Taemin didn’t like to wear anything too girly, even though he’s the most adorable thing on earth when he does. But of course, he didn’t mind when I told him to. Taemin was very obedient, even till this day. If I asked him to jump off a bridge, then he better or else I would be right behind him to push his skinny ass off!
“Please make me something to eat Minnie,” I pleased with puppy eyes, tilting my head to the side slightly.
“Hey, just to inform you, I invented that move, but whatever… What do you want to eat?”
Again I had won. Triumphantly, I dashed into Taemin’s bedroom, throwing open his closet and searching through his clothes. I felt like a child in a candy store. There were so many different clothing options to look through, it was amazing! Even though Taemin didn’t like to dress girly, he had enough clothes it to make hundreds of teenage girls happy.
“Hey, Kibummie,” Taemin called, peeking his head into the room.
“Yes?” My eyes slowly caught his gaze as he smiled cutely.
“Your butt looks really fat in those panties,” With a giggle, he dashed away.
My face instantly shaded to the darkest pink and I chased after Taemin with my boots. “You jerk! Make me some freaking food before I tear your face open!”
Throwing my boot across the house, I walked back into his room and pulled down a blue dress; it was too frilly for my liking, the dress ended up on the floor, underneath twenty more as I tried to find the perfect one. Then, later, I would make Taemin clean up the mess as I sat on his bed, watching.
“Taemin, Kibum!” Our names echoed through the house, so we both dashed off to find where the voice had come from. It was Mrs. Lee in her evening gown, her face made up with her usual amount of makeup; not too much, but enough to make her look young enough to be Taemin’s sister.
“I’m off to meet your mother Kibum. We’re going out tonight to…eat,” she said. I scratched my head and blinked a couple times; trying not to imagine all the trouble they were planning to get into while they were “eating”.
“Alright, bye Mom!” Taemin waved to his mother from the kitchen with a spoon in one hand, and a pot in his other filled with, no surprise, soup. Let me explain, soup was his favorite thing to cook for some reason. He had exquisite cooking skills, and everything that he ever made turned out wonderfully, but he was always happy to make soup.
Taemin’s mom tipped her feathery red hat as her way to say goodbye and headed out the door. Once she was gone, I ran into the kitchen and waited until Taemin set down the boiling pot. Once he set the pot down, I jumped on him and waved a letter in his face.
It was the same looking envelope earlier today. I would receive one every year since I was ten years old in the mail, as did Taemin. But, every time, our mother’s would chunk them in the garbage and play them off like it was nothing. Well…this time I had snuck into the trash and stolen the magical envelope addressed to Taemin. Today…we would be reading it.
“Key…I don’t think we should read it,” Taemin mumbled.
“Why the hell not? Your name is on there and you have every right!”
Taemin smiled weakly and turned away from me. Stupid damn spoiled goody-goody child. A moment later, he turned on his iPod to change the subject. “I love this song, don’t you?” he asked childishly. As Taemin was stirring the soup, he shook his hips a little bit and sung the lyrics quietly to himself.
“You look like a first class hooker,” I yelled over the music and he froze up, his face blushing.
“At least I’m first class.” He grinned and continued to sing, so I danced along to the song Mirror Mirror by 4Minute. I sang along with every word, while touching up and down my body as I twirled around and dropped it to the floor.
Taemin stared with an open mouth, his eyebrows raised. I threw the IPod back at him and said, “Watch the soup and not the ass perv.”
“I was trying to imagine someone hotter.” He said in a snarky voice, pouring the soup in a bowl.
“Ass.” I tore the envelope open unfolded the paper, reading the words. Funny, My name was in it too. How did they know I was going to be with him?
Dear Lee Taemin and Kim Kibum,
I am very pleased to inform you of both of your acceptance to Minjok Academy. You have been admitted to this school for many purposes, ones that can be explained when you arrive. But also, this school is for the talented and specially gifted. We are confident that you will continue your high level of academic performances through Minjok Academy. This offer of admission is contingent upon your continued success. Best wishes and congratulations!
Sincerely;
Choi Myung-Jae
Headmaster
After reading the letter I then handed it to Taemin, who didn’t really want it, but read it anyway. I began to ponder on the fact of why are parents would keep such a letter away from us, but was interrupted by Taemins voice.
“Specially gifted?” Taemin asked with a dumbfounded look on his face. Then he started to smile. “Maybe we are highly intelligent with special powers, Key.”
“I want to go to this school,” I blurted out.
Taemin shook his head. “No. We shouldn’t have even read the letter.”
My eyes narrowed as I crossed my arms. “What was that…?”
“Umm, I mean…Do you know how upset our moms are going to be?”
“Screw our moms! They’ve been hiding this for far too long now! This is our time to be grownups! We can do what we want!” I did a fist pump in the air and grinned.
“Key, we’re only sixteen,” Taemin said with a sigh, shoving the bowl into my hands, “And you don’t even act like you’re sixteen! More like, I don’t know… twelve?”
“Come on Taemin…Just think about all those hot guys walking around! I know I am…” I could have sworn I saw him considering it for a moment, but I knew how hard headed Taemin was.
“No, Key. We should just take this letter and put it back where your mom had it; in the trash!” Taemin finished the last part with a shout.
“Fine, well when I go to this school and I find a hot guy, with a hot body, you’re going to be the one who’s wishing you had come with me!”
Taemin groaned and again shook his head. “You know nothing about this school. How do you know there are even hot guys there? If there is, indeed, a hot guy, he could be some psycho killer out to rape you and then throw you into a ditch behind a church!”
“This just goes to show you watch too many damn horror movies! You’re coming with me whether you like it or not, so when I get raped you’re going to be right by my damn side!” Key shouted.
“No!”
“Please, can’t we go Taemin dear, my sweet, sweet, loving, caring, beautiful, darling, sexy ass best friend?”
“Oh stop trying to suck up, I already know that I’m all those things!”Taemin replied sourly, blushing a little. Even though he knew I was sucking up, it was still nice to hear coming from me. I watched as he thought to himself for a couple of minutes and then finally, like always, he caved.” Fine! But you’re going to be the one telling are Moms!”
Yes! I thought to myself silently, I always win!
(Lee Taemins POV)
Key is such a bitch. Not wanting to use the B-Bomb here, but he is trying to get us killed. Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit, but all he wants to do is tell our mothers that we read the letters they’ve been throwing away for so long and ask if we can go to the dang school. So what if there are going to be hot guys? That’s always a plus, but is it really worth getting our throats slit and being tossed into a volcano? Okay, now that’s a big exaggeration. But still! I have a point and I know I’m right!
We hear the slamming of the front door and Key shoved the letters into my hands and began whistling, as if he hadn’t been the culprit of this little occurrence.
“Darlings were home!” my mother called throughout the whole house.
”And we brought cake!” Key’s mother chimed in.
“Just wonderful! They’re in a great mood, and we’re just about to ruin it!” I said, practically spitting in Key’s face with every word.
“Oh hush, we’ll lay it down nice and easily so we don’t upset them, ok?” he said, as he gave me one of his reassuring smiles.
“Taemin! Kibum! If you don’t get your butts down here we’re going to eat this whole cake ourselves!” My mother partially screamed.
“Coming!” we both yelled in unison before running down the stairs. My mom pulled the cake out of the box and Key’s mom got out the plates, setting them onto the table as we took our seats.
Key looked a little nervous, which was fairly odd for him. Being nervous must have been a new experience for Key then, since he wasn’t hiding it well. At the same, it made me laugh. For once I got to be in his position!
My mother and Key’s mother sat down at the round table in the center of the dining room, the smell of cake in the air. Key gulped and took a bite of cake so he wouldn’t have to start talking right away.
I decided that I would quicken this process. “Hey Mom, Key has something to tell you!”
Key’s face went blank and he stiffened, choking on his bite of cake as he tried to swallow. He gave me another one of her famous looks that said “fuck you”.
“What do you need to say dear?” My mom asked Key, eating her cake with a smile. Yeah, that smile wouldn’t be there for long.
“You know those letters that you’ve been throwing away all these years? Well, Taemin decided to read them!” Key grinned evilly over at me and I nearly dropped dead.
“What?!” I jumped up from my seat and slammed my hands against the table. “I didn’t read it! It was Kibum! I was forced into it! He’s the one who wants to go there! I told him not to!” I went on and on, trying to save my ass. But no good, my mother already had a dark face and disapproving look.
“You did what…?” My mom stood up and I sunk back into my chair. Key’s mother got up and placed a hand on my mom’s shoulder, giving her an “it’s okay” look.
“Well…I guess I can’t keep this away from you guys any longer. Should we tell them about the agreement, Hun?” My mother asked.
“I don’t think the Choi’s---” Key’s mom was interrupted by Keys loud scream.
“Yes! Hell yes! We get to go!” Key cheered.”I’m going to go start packing now!” he ran out my front door and I didn’t see him again. Just kidding saw him the next day, sadly.
“Can you believe we leave for Minjok Academy tomorrow?!” Key said, pretty much screaming into the phone. He does that a lot.
“Ya I’m super stoked!” I said, obviously sarcasm in my voice.
“You know you are,” he sang.
“Ok maybe just a little, but I still think this school sounds a little fishy.”
“Do you think are moms would let us go if they thought their babies wouldn’t be safe at this school, I think not!” Key then made this annoying clicking sound with his tongue telling me he was ready to get off the phone.
“Well I let you go so we can both get back to packing.” I was just about to hang up until he mentioned the worst thing possibly to do, be early.
“Oh Ok, well, make sure to be ready in the morning by 9. I want to get there early, ok?”
“Early, Ugh fine bye.”
“Bye Minnie, I love you!
(Kim Kibum’s POV)
I ran over to Taemin’s house straight thing in the morning and instead of knocking on the door, I climbed up the side of the house to where Taemin’s bedroom was. He shrieked, not having a shirt on, hiding his bare chest with his hands. Honestly, like I haven’t seen him naked before. But boy is it a sight to see.
“Kibum! What have I told you about climbing into my window?”
I laughed and shoved him out of my way, grabbing the shirt he had laid out on his bed.
“What is this? The shirt we got at Disney World together?”
Taemin coughed and turned away, “Yes...”
I sighed and threw it out the window, “You are so NOT wearing that!”
I chuckled as Taemin ran over to the window, reaching out as if he could grab it, even though it was lying on the ground. “Nooo!” he yelled.
“Tae, please. You might as well wear a bag over your head.” I plopped myself down on his bed and tapped my chin. “Believe me; I just saved you from a lot of hell.”
“Look who’s talking. You’re the one who’s wearing yellow skinny jeans and a hot pink tank top. No one is going to notice you at all,” he said sarcastically.
“Don’t you think I want people to notice I’m sexy?” I said as I gave him one of my poses.
“What should I wear then oh, almighty one?” Taemin snarled, opening his closet.
I hopped up and walked inside his wonderland of clothes, picking out a pink blouse. “Aww, Taemin, you would look so cute in this!”
“Uhh, heck no.” He snatched the shirt from my hand and walked into his closet and came out with a pair of baggy blue jeans and short-sleeved, blue contrast-trimmed shirt on. I approved his look.
“You’re not seriously going to wear those clothes still, are you?” He asked me and I shrugged.
“Do I look like I’m about to change?”
“You are such a bitch.”
“I thought little mister perfect didn’t cuss,” I shot.
“Only around you I am. It’s hard not to. You make me so damn irritated!”
“There you go swearing again. You’re really tearing me apart.” I said sarcastically, grabbing my heart.
“Can we just go? You were the one who wanted to go so early, right?” Taemin zipped up his suitcase, placing it beside the ten others he had packed. I looked at him in disbelief.
“Holy hell, are you packing the whole house?”
“Don’t even start with me, Mr. Diva, even I have my needs.” With that, he picked up his suitcases and began dragging them down the stairs one by one. I, on the other hand, took one, threw it down the stairs and went back for another one. It was definitely a quicker process.
When I got down the stairs, mine and Taemin’s mother were waiting by the door, their eyes teary…Great.
My mother pulled me into a hug. “Oh my poor baby! Going off into the world full of mean, mean people! Especially those boys, well, except you Taemin,” my mother added.
“It’s ok I wouldn’t even consider Taemin a boy.” We all laughed, well… except for Taemin.
“I may look girly, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know how to throw a punch, Key.”
“Oohh scary.” I patted him on the back and then shoved him out the door. “You’re so fragile. You couldn’t even hurt a fly!”
With the roll of his eyes, we dragged the luggage out of the house and stuffed it in the car with the driver’s help. We hugged our mother’s goodbye; both got into the back of the car and drove off. It felt like it was the shortest ride ever. It was like we were at my house and then, bam! Here we are!
The school was huge, built with red brick walls which went for miles both ways. There was a large set of glass doors at the front of the Academy and people scattered about, minding their own business. The dorms were off campus, their own buildings. This school was amazing!
The driver parked the car at the front of the entrance and we got out. The drivers then told us he would take are luggage to are room and with that, he drove off. Turning around we were faced with people watching us, as if we were expected or something. Girls and boys were sitting, standing, playing, kissing boys, boys kissing boys and even the girls and boys that were trying not to pay attention seemed to be watching. I bet Taemin liked that gays wouldn’t be a problem here. I know I did.
I didn’t know I was this hot…Or maybe it was Taemin…Nahh. It’s me.
Opening the front door to the school, we stepped inside, still having the eyes of everyone outside, but also gaining it from all the students in the building. This was getting too weird. Taemin was already fidgeting beside me.
“Good morning.” A young girl around are age stepped in front of us with a smile. “May I help you?”
“Umm…We’re the new transfer students. I’m Kim Kibum and this is Lee Taemi---.”
All of the sudden she just starts clapping her hands and jumping up and down Yelling, “Wow! You’re here!”
She scared the crap out of me. All I could do was stare with wide eyes, Taemin on the other hand was so frighten he backed up too fast and accidently tripped over his feet. He’s so cute when he’s clumsy.
She finally regained her composure, took a deep breath and tried to communicate with is again. “Oh I’m so sorry for scaring you it’s just we have been waiting such a long time!”
“Oh it’s ok…wait, you have been waiting for us?”
“Yes! Forever! We thought you guys would never come always rejecting the letters the school sent you.”
I looked at Taemin and he looked at me, obviously confusion in our eyes. “How did you know about the letters?” I asked.
“Well, how about we get you to the headmaster’s office, he’s very anxious to meet you! Like I said it’s been such a long time!” And with that she skipped off into a direction humming to the tune of a song that sounded familiar.
“Ok…that was too weird,” I said,” And what does she mean by waiting for us?”
“I don’t know Key, but if we don’t hurry we’re going to lose her.” We quickly ran in the direction of the scary girl.
(Lee Taemins POV)
God what have we gotten ourselves into, again. As we were following scary young lady I watched as we passed door after door; some were big, small, wide, and some were even colorful. We passed students and just like the other ones, they stared, gawked, turned their heads, you name it. Was I that hot…or maybe it was Key…it was probably Key. A lot of the students were whispering things like, “Is that them?” or “Do you really think they are fit for those two?”
I looked over at Key hoping he was just as confused as me but of course, he was in his own little world. He looked more excited than anything…which was weird considering how many guys were staring at his, pardon my French, ass.
“Key…Do you think it’s safe here?” I asked him, but he only shushed me and stared at all the people with wide eyes. His mouth formed into a smile as some guys waved hi to him. And of course he waved back. I got as many waves as him but I just ignored them and walked faster to keep up with scary lady.
As the scary lady came to a stop we had arrived at two large, light brown wooden doors. “Well this is where I take my leave, but all you have to do is open these doors and Headmaster Choi will be in there to greet you. And by the way if you ever need anything just ask for Min, that’s me, well see ya!” She skipped off back into the direction we came from humming that same song from before, which is odd because I know I have heard it from somewhere.
“Its Bad girl good girl by Miss A.” Key suddenly decided to talk.
“So that’s it. So, are you ready to go in?” I asked.
“Duh I’m ready for anything.” He knocked on the door loudly making us hear a scream from inside the room. We backed away slowly from the big doors.
“Oh, umm, please enter,” A funny sounding voice said from inside the room.
I looked at Key who gave me a reassuring smile and slowly moved towards the doors and pushed them open. We were greeted by an old, but still handsome man sitting at an overly large desk. Was everything big here?
“Ahh my delicate flowers! At last you’re here!” He jumped up from his desk and started moving to us in a model like manner way.”You boys have grown so much since I last saw you. How are your mothers?”
“Flowers? And you know are mothers?” We both gave him confusing looks.
“Oh I’m sorry long story short! Your mothers had also gone to Minjok Academy when they were younger; such a delightful couple always knew how to bring smiles to my face. They were both trouble at times but anyway I’m Headmaster Choi Myung-Jae but you can call me Mr. Choi, welcome to Minjok Academy! You do not know how long I have waited to say those words."
"Ok we get it, we've been expected for a very long time, but why?" Key put his hands on his hips and tapped his foot impatiently.
“Oh did your mothers not tell you?” He questioned, giving us both a sideways head turn.
“Tell us what?”
“Well the reason you two have been accepted to Minjok Academy is because of the promise from your mothers made a long time ago.”
“And that promise was…?” we asked.
“Well to marry my two sons of course,” he said in a matter of fact tone.
“Say what?!” Key and I screamed loudly.
“Well like I said, you two are to marry my two sons---- “he was interrupted.
“Oh I heard what you said, I mean why the hell we were promised to marry your sons?!” Key yelled. He was getting really pissed off now.
“Well it happened during your mother’s high school years at Minjok Academy. You see, your mothers, Jessica and Tiffany had always been the highest apples on the tree. All the boys wanted them but they were always sadly, unattainable. I had always watched your mothers from afar, admiring there beauty catching every smile, breath, swim practice…well anyway I loved Jessica and Tiffany very much. So, one day I had finally decided to ask both of them out. I found them sitting under their favorite tree at the school. When I walked up to them instead of asking them out, I had accidently asked them to marry me. Of course they had rudely declined, but from that day on I realized I wanted to marry your mothers, so for four years straight every day I could find them I would ask them to marry me. Again and again and again, well you get the picture, they declined every single time. The last day of are senior year I asked them they said no but right as they were walking away I told them I would never stop, I would follow them to death until they agreed to marry me. I remember them looking each other straight in the eyes whispering to each other and then finally turning to me, and you know what they said to me?”
“What did they say?” We asked
“They said that they would never ever agree to marry me, never. But if I waited long enough that each of them would have a child and that if I had two children of my own that they would marry each other. I. of course declined at the time, but then I thought about it if your mothers were never going to agree to marry me, then I would have nothing. But, if I were to at least have some of Jessica’s and Tiffany’s children related to me in a way then it would be fine, right? So that’s how are promise was made for you two to marry my sons.” He finished with a big smile on his face.
“So you are telling me that because of your crazy obsession with our moms we have to marry your sons because you want to be in some way related to are mothers…” Key said the last part really slowly. It kind of scared me.
“Exactly!” He answered, smiling even bigger than before.
“Are you out of your mind?! That’s the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard in my whole life! Who in their right mind would ever agree to a promise like that?!” Key had lost it, so I decided to intercede.
“Umm…Mr. Choi, is their anyway we can just forget about this whole mess and just go our separate ways?” I asked.
His face became very serious all of a sudden.”No I will not. A promise is a promise. You haven’t even met my sons yet!”
“We don’t want to meet your sons Mr. Choi, we just want to go now.” I grabbed Key by the arm and started walking to the big doors.
“No, no, I think you should meet them first, they are quite excited to see you too.” There was two loud knocks at the door. ”Oh here they are now, Minho, Jonghyun come in please.” The big, light brown wooden doors opened in front of us and slowly two boys appeared.
Oh, holy hell, two gods are standing in front of us.
