Dolls & crafts

I finally got my ass in gear this weekend past and modified the patterns I needed to for Vuchel & Vashin (RS Baos) and Gunari (Lume Koit). The base pattern is the same one I use for child Haniel (Cherish Doll). Naturally, I needed to adjust the torso length for the twins and Gunari while the width was fine. Sleeve length was different for both sculpts *rolls eyes*. Pants stayed the same except for length. I can modify the length of the torso piece for Darius (RS Pixiu) from what I have for the twins since they have the same upper body type more or less.

I ended up only cutting out one outfit for Gunari and nothing for the twins. But, the twins have something to wear while Gunari doesn't and with a doll meet coming up this weekend, I want to bring Gunari but he needs clothes. I haven't exactly finished sewing it, but I'm 90% finished. I also remember now why I hated sewing the fabric I chose. It's stretchy (both on the bias and against the grain!) and a pain-in-the-ass to sew decently. I'm not entirely happy with it, but I'm a stickler for this sort of thing.

The funny thing was, while I was looking for fabric that would be suitable (thin/light, right colour/style for Gunari), I kept discarding fabrics as possibles for his outfit because I kept thinking the fabric would be great for Khale or Fei-Lau *head desk*. Khale already has 3 outfits I've sewn for him and doesn't currently need more when other dolls don't have a stitch of clothing.

In other dolls news (cuz I know you're all dying to hear that shit), I've ordered Ferrous (HZ Roro NiuNiu)! I wanted this doll back when he first came out several years ago, but at the time, I thought he was too much for that size of doll. I also thought that he'd be too small for me. Oh how the dolls can change your perceptions without you knowing they're doing it *laughs*. I haven't received a response from the seller yet, but with Sunday being Chinese New Year (and the day I ordered), I really didn't expect one right away. Bummer is that production time is estimated to be 6-8 weeks *wibbles*.

I've also mailed out the poncho to my mom today. I hope she likes it *crosses fingers*. I've started on yet another poncho in further efforts to de-stash some of my yarn. This was a good idea up to the point where I realized I needed to buy another ball of yarn to add heft to some of the yarn I already have. I went to Zellars intending to buy the one ball I needed and get the hell out. I'm guessing you can all sense where this is going, right?

Zellars has been bought out by Target. Target is not keeping all the Zellars stores. The one in the mall is one of the ones on the not keeping list. They're selling everything in the store (even the shelving and fixtures!) and prices are supposedly 50-70% off. You guys are really seeing where this is going now, huh? I bought the yarn I needed but also bought 2 other balls *head desk*. What should've been a $6 or $7 purchase ended up being $21 *sigh*. On the plus side, the two extra balls originally retailed for $19.99 a piece and I got them for slightly less than $7 each so great deal, yeah? I even have a pretty good idea of what to do with them so yea!

But I have added to my yarn stash when I hadn't intended to do so. Despite making my mom a poncho, I actually bought yarn to do that *cringes* and have about 3/4's of a ball left over. I still can't get all my yarn into a 60 litre plastic tote and close the lid. I have squished the yarn down into the bin to close the lid and have the rest (a 1lb bag of yarn, a grocery bag easily 1/2 full of 3 different types of red yarn, 2 big balls of yarn and about 6 regular sized balls of yarn) on the lid.

Funny thing is, I think I'd have a hard time giving away any of it. I like all of it and have vague project ideas for most of it. I seriously lack the time, however, to get to all those projects. Writing takes up a large chunk of my free time and the dolls have their share as well. There's a long weekend this weekend so maybe I'll be able to get some knitting done then. One can dream, right?
